Make New Friends... // Episode 97

Crystal informed Joseph just before we recorded that there's a song that goes, "Make new friends, but keep the old-- one is silver and the other is gold." We don't sing it on this episode, but we stole part of the first line for the title!
Meeting new people can seem scary, or uncomfortable, or in our perilous times, downright dangerous and life-threatening. But it isn't usually that bad. We talk about the basics of meeting people and why to do so.
We reference briefly the movie Peanut Butter Falcon, which we recommend, but because of language, would not recommend for kids. We also reference Brideshead Revisited, both the book and the BBC miniseries (also not kid material). And I don't remember for sure if we reference the musical Wicked, but I'm pretty sure we did. It's been a long time, but I have a recollection that it might be debatable whether it is kid-appropriate. I mean, there's pretty blatant natural-law flouting, what with the defying of gravity and all, and characters end up being a bit more complex than in the Judy-Garland-starring film Wizard of Oz, so there's that. And it deviates wildly from the L. Frank Baum world of Oz, which is filled with wonderful characters like the Patchwork Girl of Oz, and Ozma of Oz, and Tik-Tok of Oz, and Scarecrow becomes the mayor of the Emerald City for a time, and all of that has to become non-canonical for Wicked to work.
