Jesus and Airplane Mode, with Becca Ellis. A Spacious Christianity, First Presbyterian Church of Bend, Oregon. Scripture: Matthew 6:27; 34.
This Sunday we will consider the ways that Jesus embodied presence in his life and ministry, the way he was present to the pain around him and the questions lingering behind his disciples eyes. Among the many questions he asked to his followers, we find an invitation to wonder – how would we live if we truly believed we were exactly what was needed to heal our world?
About the Series, Freeing Jesus: Jesus asks his followers, “Who do you say that I am?” This worship will ask us that same question inviting us to see Jesus through six different lenses. Many struggle identifying themselves as Christian because of the disappointments and disillusionment with the church. Instead, they say they are followers of Jesus. This series will seek to free Jesus from the constraints that are often placed on Jesus that we might renew our hope in the Jesus we have known, the one we know now, and the one who will meet us ahead on the road.

At First Presbyterian, you will meet people at many different places theologically and spiritually. And we love it that way. We want to be a place where our diversity brings us together and where conversation takes us all deeper in our understanding of God.
We call this kind of faith “Spacious Christianity.” We don’t ask anyone to sign creeds or statements of belief. The life of faith is about a way of being in the world and a faith that shows itself in love.
