Raising kids is hard, especially in our society where diet culture is still very large. Our kids can be influenced anywhere – in school, by friends, by tv shows. Our goal is to help our children have a healthy relationship with food. In order to do that, it’s important for us to be an example for them by working on our own relationships with food and with our bodies. Today I speak with pediatric nutrition expert, Dr. Taylor Arnold. She specializes in helping parents nurture healthy relationships with food so that their kids eat more veggies and don’t obsess over sweets. She has her Ph.D. in nutrition and is a registered pediatric dietitian with a YouTube channel and a ton of free content and courses to help parents who have picky eaters and give them a healthy relationship with food. Dr. Taylor shares with us why it’s important to work on our own relationship with food, when to start working on helping our children have healthy relationships with food, and what to do if your kids are being influenced at school about their bodies. In this episode, we cover:
  • How Dr. Taylor got into nutrition [2:30]
  • How our own relationship with food can help us raise intuitive eaters [5:53]
  • Some of the worst habits with food you can do around your kids [7:58]
  • How to handle when your kids are sneaking foods [13:59]
  • When to start working on your kids having a healthy relationship with food [19:45]
  • Where to start with baby-led weaning [22:28]
  • Dealing with school guidelines with nutrition [27:54]
  • Why Dr. Taylor thinks dessert should be served with dinner [32:10]
  • What to do if your kids are being influenced at school about their body [44:57]
