Speaks About

  • How has being able to write changed the course of your personal history?
  • Handwriting is / was very important in my life, firstly as a professional coordinator in Utility, and secondly in my ‘afterlife’ as an Activist. Making hand notes during meetings have been very helpful to execute my job and skills, and later on as an Author to help form / shape the content of my books. Without my 'nightly waking hours' being inspired by scrabbling down ideas I would have never written my book “Quasar, the New World’ and others.
  • What have you achieved in your life, career, personally that would not have been possible were you not taught how to write by hand?
  • If I was not taught how to write I would have not been able to perform my job very well. It has also been very important in my personal life: writing private messages, love letters, wishing cards etc. It’s a great part of my social and romantic life!
  • There is also a special ring to it: I’m left-handed. This doesn't seem that special now, however in the sixties / seventies it was very rare, and not even allowed in some schools. So I wrote with my right-hand the first few years (which felt so unnatural to me), and then I switched because it finally became allowed. I sort of developed a multi-functional way of interacting, and also experienced a revolutionary way of thinking, because of not being able to write with my left-hand in the first place. It must have shaped me being more independent and perhaps to even more out of the box thinking.
  • Why do you feel that teaching children/everyone how to write is important even in this digital age?
  • Handwriting learns you to formulate and synchronize your thoughts first, for it to put in on paper rightly. It makes you more conscious of how you want to say and express things. You really develop communication skills that are (can / will be) very supportive in your adult life. It teaches you to firstly listen to your inner voice, and also to learn to listen to others.
