Tom Dunn assumes co-hosting duties today and we had a great chat about the use of the National Guard as a transition tool. For those that wondered the "why" behind the National Guard/Air National Guard posters on post, well it is a very easy way for an active duty member to "ease" their way into Veteran life. Tom paints a picture of a whole lotta laid back weekends and yet something that gave him much more. Having spent seven years on active duty as an Infantryman he was prepared to train others, having been deployed, he was ready to prepare them for what could be. Tom is going to come back on and chat with us about the hometown Veteran feel, something we need to get back.
A big take away for us Veterans within this episode really sits with our attitude towards finding a logical way to make a smooth transition to being a Veteran. Most have passed this time, but for those that you know who might need it, getting out or already have, then pass this on to them. If I would have gotten out after eight years I would have joined, just to help me get my boots off for good and start walking in a different pair.
