Today on the JB’s Powercast … Corey brings us the latest Industry News and Adel welcomes Special Guest Mike Wynnyk from Blue Line Racing Association.
Today's Automotive Industry News:
- Aston Martin developed their first in house engine design since 1968. Twin turbo compact high revving V6. The engine will be a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged V6, with an electrified powertrain. By designing the cylinder heads with the intake ports on the outside of the engine, and moving the exhaust ports inboard, they are able to nestle the turbochargers in the valley of the engine, which not only reduces the weight of the associated plumbing, but makes for a more compact, thermally efficient design. Plus it looks very unique and cool. It is being designed to be used with an electric motor of some kind, likely the turbocharges and V6 saved for operating at high RPM high horsepower demand while the electric motor will be used for low end torque production.

- F1 Teams among groups in the automotive industry to step up to help in development of treatment technologies like ventilators. Mercedes, Red Bull, McLaren and Williams are dedicating their expertise to technology and design to help in the efforts. These technologies will go towards helping those affected more gravely by the COVID-19 virus.
- These F1 teams join many others in the cause for manufacturing emergency and health care supplies including General Motors and Ford.
- March 29 marks an interesting date. This week, March 29 in 1927, the 200 mph barrier was breached for the first time ever. The 200 MPH benchmark is still an high achievement some 93 years later. The world’s first 200 mph speed was hit by Major Henry Seagrave driving a Sunbeam ‘Slug’. This car, which was purpose built for land speed records, was powered by TWO massive V12 engines from airplanes for a total displacement of nearly 45 litres and generated just under 1000 HP. Not bad for 1927. What is your own personal speed record in a vehicle?
