It was a Black Friday for the entire state of Karnataka and the Kannada Film Industry as it faced a heavy jolt after losing its iconic gem, 46-year-old Puneeth Rajkumar from a massive cardiac arrest. Fondly nicknamed Appu, Power Star, and Yuvarathna by his fans, he was the youngest son of legendary film icon, the late Dr Rajkumar. Puneeth has acted in 29 Kannada movies ever since his younger days, and he is the only South Indian superstar to produce 18 consecutive super hit films. He will always be remembered not only as an ever-smiling, multi-talented actor but also as a kind-hearted philanthropist. Today’s list hai toh hit hai is a special tribute to the Kannada superstar. Bettada Hoovu

A 1985 release, Kannada film starring Puneeth Rajkumar as a child actor earned him a National Award for Best Child Artist. The story depicts a young boy Ramu who hails from a poor family, is forced to stop school and work. Ramu, who is inspired to buy a book on Ramayana, starts collecting money by getting wildflowers for a foreign tourist.

Appu

The 2002 Kannada comedy romantic film was his comeback into the industry. Acting alongside Rakshitha in the lead, this movie claimed great success and was remade in Telugu, Tamil and Bangla. A college student Appu falls in love with Suchitra from the same college. He tries all his tricks and talents to prove his love for her.

Abhi

Based on a true story, this movie was released in 2003, with Puneeth and Ramya in the main lead. The story is about Abhi and Bhanu, neighbours who fall in love with each other. They are forced to ignore their love for one another because of their different religious backgrounds. They are separated and find out the truth about their past. Will they get back to each other?

Arasu

The 2007 Kannada action-drama film stars Puneeth in the title role, Ramya as Shruti and Meera Jasmine as Aishwarya. The story is based on a love triangle in which Arasu, a son of a business tycoon, falls in love with Shruti, but when she questions his competence, he sets out to make his own living. On his journey of self-discovery, he meets Aishwarya who aids him.

Milana

Milana is a super hit musical Kannada film from 2007 starring Puneeth Rajkumar as Akash and Parvathy Thiruvothu as Anjali in the lead. The story depicts Anjali demanding a divorce from Akash on their first night as she wants to reunite with her love interest Hemant, who later turns out to be a fraudster. Will Anjali finally realise Akash for the man he truly is?

Doddamane Huduga

The 2016 release, Kannada action drama film with Puneeth as Surya and Radhika Pandit as Nisha in the lead. It has an ensemble star cast of Ambareesh, Sumalatha, Bharathi Vishnuvardhan, Avinash Krishna, Srinivasa Murthy. The movie is packed with some action sequences; the story is based on Surya from a small town who learns that he belongs to a big family. Though hates his father for abandoning him in childhood, helps him deal with the local goon.

Raajakumara

A 2017 Kannada action film, starring Puneeth as Siddarth and Priya Anand as Nandini in the lead. The story is based on the life of Siddarth hailing from a rich family in Melbourne, who loses his entire family in a plane crash, returns to India and finds out the harsh truth of his father’s reputation. What will he do to rectify it? The movie has given some all-time super hit songs.
