Welcome to "Single Parents Unmasked", the podcast where we dive into the stories and experiences of single parents. In this episode, we will hear from me Will Brooker, I'm a single father of two boys, and I share my personal journey of navigating parenthood in a single-father household.
My story sheds light on the inequality that single fathers face in society. Often, people assume that single parenthood is a woman's job, and fathers are not given the same recognition or support. I share how I have had to overcome this stigma and become an advocate for single fathers and mothers alike.
One of the most significant challenges that I have faced is supporting my children emotionally. I understand the importance of having both a male and female role model in his children's lives, but I have had to navigate how to fill that void. I talk about the emotional labour that I have taken on as a single father, including how I have had to learn to be vulnerable with my children and create an open environment for communication.
I also share my observations about how my children crave female attention because of their absent mother. I discuss the importance of acknowledging this need and finding healthy ways to meet it.
Navigating the school system has also been a challenge for me as a single father. I talk about how I feel I have not always been included in school events or conversations with other parents, which has made me feel isolated.
Through my story, I challenge the stereotypes of single parenthood and highlight the unique challenges that single fathers face.
