Why do we as a society find it so hard to be compassionate towards people with addictions? Why do we as individuals struggle to see addiction as a #mentalhealth issue and rather believe the media hype and demonisation of our fellow humans? Why are we still opting for imprisonment rather than empathy and treatment, when we know historically the war on drugs is failing and has failed?
During #mentalhealthawarenessweek2021, with our co-host Emma Kate Ross from Seas the Mind, our resident Mental Health First Aid instructor and Maud Ray, Psychotherapeutic therapist, to discuss the conversations and contradictions around mental health and addiction, our misunderstandings of the topic and what can be done better on an individual and societal level.
