In this lesson we will practice two more vowel sounds.
First /ʊ/, the sound in words like
good
stood
book
And then the sound /u:/ in words like
moon
boot
soon
Part One: Listen to the following sentences with the /ʊ/ sound:
- That’s a good cookbook.
- I would like to buy a wool jacket.
- Take a look at this hook.
- Please put the wood over there.
- The soldier stood at attention.
- She should have come earlier.
Part Two: Now let’s practice with the /u:/ sound.
- This boot is loose.
- The goose got loose.
- A hammer is a tool. A saw is too.
- You never see the moon at noon.
- Please come home soon.
Part Three: Some words with both sounds:
Schoolbook.
I lost my favorite schoolbook.
Footstool
He stood on a footstool to reach the top shelf.
Bulletproof
The policeman wore a bulletproof vest.
Extra Listening Practice:
He got soot on his suit.
He pulled his friend into the pool.
Extra slow: schoolbook……..footstool………..bulletproof…………..
