Much vs. many
Manage episode 298697050 series 2931064
In this podcast you'll practice with the words much and many, and when to use each one. The rules are simple:
If you can count something, use many. For example:
How many children does Mrs. Johnson have? Three, I think. Two boys and a girl.
If it is non-countable, like water, sand, milk, etc., use much. For example:
There isn't much gas left in the car. We'll have to stop soon to get more.
Let's practice.
- How many stars are in the sky? Too many to count.
- How much water is there in an Olympic swimming pool? What a good question. About 660,000 (six hundred sixty thousand) gallons, or 2.5 (two and a half) million liters.
- We spent many happy days on my uncle's farm.
- Much of her money is invested in the stock market.
- Can I borrow some flour? Sure, how much do you need?
- Can you spare any sugar? Sure, how much do you need?
- Can you spare any milk? I need some for this recipe. Probably. How many cups of milk will you need?
- We had so much fun at the zoo that I didn't want to leave.
- Many of the animals at the zoo like to watch the people.
- I'm miserable. I don't have much money and I don't have many friends. Well I'm not surprised. All you do is sit around playing video games. Go get a job—that'll help with your money problems. And take an interest in other people. That'll help with your social life.
