11. Ancestral Knowdlege & Intuitive Eating
Manage episode 361092661 series 3460143
Our Indigenous knowledge ancestral wisdom has been front and center in healing our relationship with food and connection to our bodies and Mother Earth. Our ancestral knowledge and wisdom IS intuitive, has always been and will always be. Unfortunately, we live in a society where Indigenous knowledge is not validated and honored and often is questioned and challenged.
Western knowledge, specifically scientific evidence and evidence based frameworks become the norm, the standard to which everything else is measured. This is problematic for many reasons. It's elitist, unaccessible, dismissive of lived experience, and often ideas are appropriated from Indigenous teachings.
It can often be scary and unsafe for folks with marginalized identities to question and challenge established frameworks. I've struggled for several years with the Intuitive Eating framework and did not muster the courage in the past to critique it until now. Todo a su paso y tiempo. It was not my season in the past but it is now.
In this episode I share some of my concerns/critiques of Intuitive Eating while also discussing the 10 principles and how to apply them in your undieiting journey.
I am still in the journey of figuring out how to name and create a framework that is affirming to marginalized communities, that is affirming to my lived experience and multiple intersecting marginalized identities. We need to create our own tool box, our own strategies, and language around healing so that our knowledge and labor is not erased. We owe it to our ancestors, ourselves, and our communities.
Thank you for being here and building collective healing.
Gracias
