This week's guest is David Jessup Jr. David is the founder and chief executive officer of Digi-Bridge, a federally recognized Charlotte-based nonprofit working at the nexus of technology and education. The organization believes that the “digital divide”- a reality that affords only some students with the access needed in order to be successful in a global economy- is exacerbating the country’s educational achievement gap. Employing a three-pronged strategy to eradicate this divide, David oversees advocacy activities, consultancy efforts and educational course offerings carried out by Digi-Bridge. On this episode, David talks to us about the impact of Digi-Bridge and generating revenue as a nonprofit organization. You can learn more about Digi-Bridge at www.digi-bridge.org ; on IG at @digibridgeus ; on FB https://www.facebook.com/digibridgeUS/ and on Twitter https://twitter.com/DigiBridgeUS…

Khalia Braswell received her first computer in the 4th grade and was instantly hooked. As a result of her early interest in tech, she enrolled in Phillip O. Berry Academy of Technology, in Charlotte, North Carolina, for high school, where she fell in love with computer programming. After receiving her Bachelor of Science degree in computer science from North Carolina State University College of Engineering in 2013, Braswell attained a Master of Science in Information Technology from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte in 2016. Throughout her journey in tech, Braswell interned at several companies and noticed that few people, both in academia and in the workforce, looked like her–a Black woman. As a result, she founded the INTech Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to inform and inspire girls to innovate in the technology industry. To date, INTech has reached over 500 minority girls across North and South Carolina, through hosting one-day camps, mini-camps, and summer camps. INTech has worked with the National Center for Women in Information Technology, Teach For America - South Carolina, Google, UNC Charlotte, the STARS Computing Corps, Red Ventures, AvidXchange, SAS, and the Urban League of Central Carolinas. INTech has gained social entrepreneurship coaching while participating in the Queen City Forward ImpactU summer accelerator, the Tiny Fellowship from 4.0 Schools, as well as, the SEED20 Competition. In December 2015, Braswell was invited to attend the inaugural White House Computer Science Tech Jam, which kicked off Computer Science Education Week. She was also named to the 2016 Charlotte Mecklenburg Black Chamber of Commerce 30 Under 30 list and the 2017 North Carolina State University Computer Science Outstanding Young Alumni list. Braswell was a user experience engineer at Apple in Cupertino, California where she helped design enterprise applications, which reached all Apple employees. This show features Executive Director of the T.I.M.E. Foundation- Mr. Curtis Walls. Curtis Walls, Co-Founder & Executive Director T.I.M.E. – Taking Initiative Moving Efficiently was a concept birthed in the Spring of 2007 by Curtis Walls while running for Student Government Association (SGA) President at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University. The philosophical concept speaks to possibility, hope, sincere investment and the urgency of now – action. For Curtis Walls, leadership has always been an intrinsic quality. Vowing to never lose the common touch, he has always been passionate about inspiring others, connecting people, and truth seeking. Curtis Walls is a native of Charlotte, NC and graduated of North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University as a two (2) year captain of the football team and a Bachelor of Science degree in Landscape Architecture. Upon graduation, Curtis moved to Aspen, Colorado to work for the #1 voted Landscape Architecture firm in the nation by American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) – Design Workshop. While in Aspen, Curtis worked tirelessly with Lawrence Alli and Samuel Evans, in which they co-founded T.I.M.E. Shortly after moving to Aspen, Curtis’ firm was hit by the 2008 economic recession and he was laid off with other colleagues. With no signs of the economy being quickly restored, he began to follow his other passions to make a way of survival. From this time of adversity, he birth his professional football career, T.I.M.E., consulting services, coaching career, and other successful business ventures. The year of 2008 dawned an amazing investment of time, energy and resources for Curtis’ future. Eight years later, all of his businesses have grown and become staples in the greater Charlotte community due to the support of his business partners, volunteers and success network. Curtis is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. where he locally serves on select committees. Being a college and professional athlete, his passion for sports continues as he has transitioned into the NASCAR world as a sports performance coach and pit crew member.
