At the dawn of the social media era, Belle Gibson became a pioneering wellness influencer - telling the world how she beat cancer with an alternative diet. Her bestselling cookbook and online app provided her success, respect, and a connection to the cancer-battling influencer she admired the most. But a curious journalist with a sick wife began asking questions that even those closest to Belle began to wonder. Was the online star faking her cancer and fooling the world? Kaitlyn Dever stars in the Netflix hit series Apple Cider Vinegar . Inspired by true events, the dramatized story follows Belle’s journey from self-styled wellness thought leader to disgraced con artist. It also explores themes of hope and acceptance - and how far we’ll go to maintain it. In this episode of You Can't Make This Up, host Rebecca Lavoie interviews executive producer Samantha Strauss. SPOILER ALERT! If you haven't watched Apple Cider Vinegar yet, make sure to add it to your watch-list before listening on. Listen to more from Netflix Podcasts .…

The brand new series of the TT Podcast is almost here. Until then we're bringing you one more Rewind, this week with Jamie Coward. Jamie works as a groundworker by week and a motorbike racer by weekend. He’s spent the last ten years competing at the TT, and has become one of the event’s most successful privateers. In this episode of The TT Podcast he told Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater how he balances working life with a career on the road. Like many of the riders who’ve been featured on this podcast, road-racing is in Jamie’s blood. Jamie shared how his father’s influence and support has paved his way to what he’s achieved so far. In August 2019, Jamie won the Junior Classic TT - but he’s never had a win at the Isle of Man TT Races. Seeded at number 1 for the Supertwin race in 2022, Chris and Steve find out how confident he was feeling ahead of that year's TT. For our next 'Rewind' of this mini-series we're bringing you a double helping, as Chris and Steve are joined by a dominant force in sidecar racing, Ben and Tom Birchall, in an episode first published in April 2022. The Birchall brothers take a trip down memory lane looking back from their first TT holidays with the family, to dodging their marshalling dad around the Mountain Course in their debut year. The winning siblings also talk about the deal Ben made with his boss that allowed him to begin his career as a driver, and waiting for a young Tom to take his place as passenger. Addressing the lows as well as the highs, with the duo providing a detailed explanation to their 2012 crash that saw them fly off the side of Snaefell Mountain and the quick recovery to take their maiden TT podium. The trio also looked back to the beginning of the Lanchashireman’s biking career including watching his dad race - and crash - around the Mountain Course and losing him round the track at Oulton Park. The ‘I’m a Celeb’ winner also took on the quick-fire round covering everything from two-strokes to four-strokes, and mealworms to camel penis! This episode of the TT Podcast is part two of Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater’s conversation with Dr Gareth Davies. As one of the Chief Medical Officers for the TT, Gareth explains how Senior Race Day looks from his perspective - explaining the checks and simulations which the medical team sort before roads close, all the way to the decisions about where to land the helicopters if needed. Gareth tells the guys how proud he is of the 40-50 strong volunteer team which come to the Island each year to support the races. Discussing the impact the Covid-19 gap had on the TT, Gareth says it enabled him and the other bosses to step back and consider their roles as custodians of the event: meaning they need to work to eliminate unnecessary risks, and make sure the TT is there for their children and children’s children. The guys chat about the impact that witnessing tragic events can have on people in Gareth’s position; and also the way lessons regularly get learned and fed into the events to make sure the races continue to get safer. Manx born and bred, Gareth tells the guys about his passion for the races, sharing experiences from his days watching from the hedgerows with his dad. Milky discusses the feeling of not only stepping onto the podium at the event, but then stepping onto the top spot. After being a TT fan, rider, coach and just all round advocate, the legendary Milky Quayle finally takes on the TT Podcast to tell Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater some of his many tales and all about his love of the event. Beginning from his early days of watching the Southern 100 and TT from the hedges with his dad, the Manxman takes the hosts through the journey to his first time racing at the event, sharing stories of riding round the course nine times on Mad Sunday and learning from local heroes along the way. He talks about some of his early bikes and taking advice from local heroes. Milky gets into his first days at the TT, telling Chris and Steve about why he was nervous to race despite having driven around the course hundreds of times before. He also describes the magic of waiting for the sun to rise during a morning practice and why it's better that more care is taken now over the decision to race. TT one-to-watch Paul Jordan returns to the podcast for part two of his chat with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater this week. After patiently waiting to bring it up in part one, Chris finally asks Paul about his now infamous incident with a pigeon during TT 2022. The rider talks about why having a face full of blood, feathers and guts didn’t stop him from getting back on the bike to compete in the race immediately after. The Northern Irishman gets into his third place finish in this year’s Supertwin race including a battle with Pierre Yves Bian for the spot and why celebrating fans meant he couldn’t actually see the mid-course pit board confirming his success on the last lap. Paul also discusses the effect of having a TT podium under your belt and the congratulations he continues to received months after the event as well as looking to the future and his hope to stick with his supportive team. This week’s guest on the TT Podcast has continued his reputation as an upcoming leader following a first podium finish at this year’s TT and multiple successes at the North West 200. Paul Jordan joins hosts Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater to talk all about his exciting career so far. He also gets into the decision he made to not compete in the event after the first offer he received and what he’s still working on to go faster than ever. In part two of Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater’s chat with Clerk of the course at the TT, Gary Thompson, he gets into his history at the event and his best, and worst, days in the job. Remembering how he started right in the deep end in 2012, becoming the first man to cancel a Senior TT, Gary explains why that decision was actually very easy on the day and how he sees accusations of being ‘over the top’ in his decisions. Alongside making historically disappointing decisions, Gary is also the man responsible for putting on a five race day at the 2019 event and he tells the podcast how that came about, getting into some of the complexities that come from rearranging races and managing the expectations of competitors, marshals, fans and residents. Though he admits he is often told that many would not want to do his job, Gary explains why he loves the role and all the problems it can bring, also letting Chris and Steve in on the one job that he himself would not want to take on. This week on the TT podcast, hosts Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater are joined by a man who wields a great influence on the events at the world’s greatest racing festival, Clerk of the course, Gary Thompson MBE. Gary goes right back to the beginning of his time as a soldier in the army, explaining why the regimented environment there was great preparation for managing the TT and how he managed to turn a childhood love of racing into a career. He also gives an insight into what a day at the races is like for a clerk of the course, describing why he wakes up at 6am every day and how his team works together to pull off the mammoth task of preparing the course. Not just the man in charge at the TT, Gary also holds both MBE and BEM medals and tells the stories of how they came about to Chris and Steve, including organising the largest land operation since WWII, as well as the big responsibilities he had dealing with members of the royal family. Dave Molyneux returns for part two of his chat with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater on the TT Podcast, recorded on the Isle of Man. The Manxman talks about his time competing at world and European championships - including a surprise trip to Czechoslovakia - and compares how his goals changed as he gained more experiences of different races. He explains why he’s kept coming back to the TT. A Royal visit to the TT in 2003 marred by rain and fog caused quite a dilemma for the sidecar drivers and passengers, and on the podcast Dave describes the awkward conversation he had to have with the Clerk of the Course! He talks us through the impact of his 2006 crash, and how he managed to still win both sidecar classes in 2007. Looking to the future of sidecar racing, Dave tells Chris and Steve that whilst he hopes he’ll see someone hit a 120mph lap of the Mountain Course, he’s equally aware of the need to bring new talent into the sport. Joining Chris and Steve on The TT Podcast this week is a Manxman who’s currently the 4th most successful TT competitor of all time. Dave Molyneux raced at his first TT in 1985 and since then, has won 17 times. As well as explaining how his emotions on the startline have changed in the last 37 years, Dave tells the guys about the years leading up to his first races. He talks about his background as a mechanic, and how as a young man he chose jobs he thought would set him up well for a life as an independent rider. Explaining why he’s always raced sidecars and not solo bikes, Dave talks about his dad’s influence, and how he had a trike as a kid. Dave also talks about the only time he had an interest in 2 wheel bikes, when he looked after the machinery for fellow Manxman Graeme Cannell - and the job offer he turned down so he could pursue his own racing career. The podcast also gets Dave’s thoughts on the differences between short-circuit and road racing, including his time at the Ulster Grand Prix. James Hillier is back for part two of his conversation with Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater on the TT Podcast. Despite wanting to forget about it at the time, the lightweight TT winner gets into his infamous wobble at Ballagarey, why his first thought after was about Ian Hutchinson and what he learned about the rider’s responsibility to look after their bike. A man with BSB experience in his story alongside TT success, Hillier discusses the difference between road and track racing and why the gap between how you ride the different disciplines is closing thanks to the styles of racers like Peter Hickman and Dean Harrison. The family man also talks about his hesitance with the idea of his children following in his racing footsteps, or tire marks, and how his family influences what he wants to achieve with his life. A man with a lightweight win and many a TT podium in his record, James Hillier, joins the TT podcast this week with hosts Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater, but this time they’re recording at the home of the TT itself, the Isle of Man. Alongside plenty of racing chat, James lets listeners into a bit more of his personal life as he talks about juggling his racing career alongside having kids, renovating a house and working part time selling bikes. The rider discusses why he swapped out of his famous green leathers to ride for a new team this year and how that brand new set up affected his, self professed, middling results at this years event in June. Away from TT racing, James gets into his plans to take on the legendary Dakar rally later this year. His mum hated two things: rope swings and motorbikes. However, he reveals how he eventually got into riding trials bikes and worked his way up to winning races on the Mountain Course. With a fair share of low points, resulting in many missed years at the TT, Hutchy reflects on his recoveries from injury and how when he’s not riding, he spends time flying helicopters around the British Isles. When a 28-year-old lad from Bradford lifted the Senior TT trophy for the first time in 2019, the likelihood of him still holding it three years later may have seemed lower than they turned out to be! After the hiatus caused by the pandemic, Dean Harrison heads to the 2022 Isle of Man TT as the reigning champion. In this episode of The TT Podcast, Dean tells Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater that he tries not to let pressure get to him. From the conversation, it’s clear he’s still as much a fan as he is one of the stars of the show. At times, racing at the TT may look like an individual pursuit but behind each rider is a support network. Some are bigger than others, but no rider can face the physical and mental challenge of the Isle of Man TT Races alone. One of the biggest networks supporting riders is Honda Racing UK, the team of both John McGuinness and Glenn Irwin for 2022. In Episode 9 of The TT Podcast, Havier Beltran, Honda Racing UK Race Team Manager, gives Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater a peek behind the scenes into the team. From balancing the attention required by riders from the established TT elite, and those new to the mountain, to communicating with teams in China, the part Havier will play at TT 2022 cannot be underestimated. Havier tells the guys about his journey, his motivation and his goals going forwards. He also shares how global events including war in Ukraine are impacting motorsport. Glenn Irwin is the man for episode eight of The TT Podcast as the four time North West 200 winner joins Chris Pritchard and Steve Plater in the lead up to his debut at the world’s ultimate road race. Glenn talks about the A* revision he’s done as he prepares for his first year around the TT Mountain Course, how having John McGuiness as a teammate will help his learning process, and what he expects it to be like when getting that tap on the shoulder for the first time. The British Superbike star also takes the opportunity to push Steve for some racing tips and discusses an unusual first go round the Course during a parade lap in 2019. Hailing from what he describes as a hugely competitive family, the Honda rider gives a glimpse into growing up with a successful rider for a father, and how the attitude instilled in him has helped shape his recovery from a big 2017 crash at Knockhill that continues to affect him.
