The War and Treaty’s Michael and Tanya Trotter grew up in Cleveland, Ohio, and Washington, DC, respectively, but both have family roots in the South. They also grew up in the musical traditions of their churches – Tanya in the Black Baptist Church and Michael in the Seventh Day Adventist Church – where they learned the power of song to move people. After becoming a father at a very young age, Michael eventually joined the armed forces and served in Iraq and Germany, where he took up songwriting as a way of dealing with his experiences there. Meanwhile Tanya embarked on a singing and acting career after a breakthrough appearance in Sister Act 2 alongside Whoopi Goldberg and Lauryn Hill. Now, after a long and sometimes traumatic journey, Michael and Tanya are married, touring, winning all sorts of awards, and set to release their fifth album together, and their fourth as The War and Treaty. Sid talks to Michael and Tanya about the new record, Plus One , as well as their collaboration with Miranda Lambert, what it was like to record at FAME studios in Muscle Shoals, and how they’re blending country, soul, gospel, and R&B. Titus is an interesting book, because on the surface, many people tend to think it doesn’t really apply to them, because they aren’t in a leadership role at church. But as we will soon see, we are all leaders in shape or form - either at home, at church, or at the workplace. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1425/29…
Today on The Dwelling Place we continue a study of Titus. Now it didn’t take the apostle Paul long for him to get right into the meat and potatoes in this epistle. James is one of the most practical books in the Bible. It speaks of taming the tongue, the importance of putting our faith into real action, and dealing with the hardships of life. When we suffer we so often ask God to take the pain away! But the Lord has something greater in view, than our comfort. He wants to conform us into the image of Christ! Today marks the end of a profitable journey through James. In just a moment we’ll meet up with pastor Al Pittman in chapter five, and we’ll focus on the last several verses. Today on The Dwelling Place we’re encouraged toward a life of honesty and integrity in all that we say and do. It’s an important sign of an established heart. What does that exactly mean? Let’s find out with a study based on James chapter five. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1425/29…
What is mankind’s biggest problem, when it comes to a relationship with God? It’s pretty simple. We don’t think we need a God. Who knows better what’s best for me than me? That attitude is a recipe for disaster, and pastor Al will share the reasons why today, as we continue in James chapters four and five. There are three specific aspects of God’s wisdom that get ignored when arrogance takes control of a life. To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1425/29…

Arrogance and pride are major roadblocks to a close relationship with God. Who really knows what’s best for us? Most of us, of course, think we do. However, James, in a very bold and uncompromising way, shows us in chapter four of his epistle that reliance on God is the only way to go! if you never made your desires known, you probably wouldn’t get what you want, right? Likewise, our Heavenly Father wants us to present our requests to Him. And often times, the reason we don’t have some things is because we haven’t asked! Pastor Al Pittman will explain in just a moment as we return to our study of James. We’ll be in chapter four here on this edition of The Dwelling Place To support this ministry financially, visit: https://www.oneplace.com/donate/1425/29…
Generally, your parents had your best interest at heart. There are also some things that our Heavenly Father says we are to avoid, and for our own good I might add. That’s the subject of today’s study in James chapter four. If we want to walk in the spirit, there are things we definitely need to avoid.
