This is World AIDS Day 2024. The theme for this year is "It starts with me", showing that we all have a role to play in reducing HIV related stigma. Stigma reduction has become an increasingly important part of the NSW HIV strategy. Though what is it and what can we do about it? To discuss the research into the detrimental effects of stigma, I am joined by Dr Timothy Broady. He is a senior research fellow from UNSW's Centre for Social Research in Health. This podcast discusses stigma broadly, but mainly focuses on HIV related stigma among healthcare workers. In this episode of the podcast we discuss some of the common presentations we see at Sydney Sexual Health Centre that aren't necessarily sexually transmitted infections. Though they aren't sexually transmitted it can sometimes be difficult to know what it is based on symptoms alone. It is still important to get it checked out by a GP or at a sexual health clinic to look after your sexual health. We discuss thrush, bacterial vaginosis, and some other common conditions that people will come to see us about.
