When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. This episode is a really fun, simple episode where I tell you all about some great sex I had recently. I wanted to share because we so rarely hear disabled people telling great sex stories. So often our sexual encounters as disabled people are bogged down with ableism, and I wanted to share a moment that was just some really good sex for this queer cripple. Enjoy!…
In this episode, I talk with chronically ill sex blogger Rachael Rose about her blog Hedonish.com. We talk about sexuality and chronic illness, brain fog and sex, why she once named her illness "Fred"; what brings Rachael pleasure as a chronically ill person, our "jewish-ness" is revealed and so, so much more. Be sure to follow Rachael's work at Web: www.hedonish.com…
In this episode, I talk about some of the current sex toys on the market for disabled people. I look at the ableist mess that is the "Intimate Rider" product and explore whether I think a Tenga Egg sleeve donated by Come As You Are would actually be accessible for someone like me by opening it live on the air. I also talk more about my new venture to create the first line of sex toys for and by physically disabled people.…
In this episode, I talk with a listener all the way from the UK, Morgan. We talk about their experiences with autism, sexuality, and queerness. They tell us about sex in a McDonald's, how autism affects their sex drive, autism in dom/sub/daddy relationships and a whole lot more. If you want to follow Morgan, you can do so here: www.twitter.com/kinkyautistic Enjoy!…
In this episode, I get an e-mail from an anonymous listener who talks about their journey with gender identity and also discusses a little bit about their dating history as an autistic non-binary person. They also mention the lack of representation of autistic people dating in the media. This was a nice, detailed glimpse into their world, and I was happy to read and discover that this podcast has been helpful to them. PLEASE WRITE IN FOR A MINISODE to disabilityafterdark@gmail.com .…
In this episode, I review 2018's Best Picture Winner "The Shape of Water". I talk a lot about the ableism in the film, and how the central character (played by a non-disabled actress... ugh) shouldn't necessarily fall in love with a fish man. I share some of my many issues with the film, as well as a few things I could relate to in love that I saw in this. I also share some reviews from disabled people who highlight just how ableist this romance between a deaf woman and a fish man actually is.…
This episode is all about my feelings about Pride when you are disabled. I share some of my experiences in Prides in 2018, and my issues with the organizational exclusion of disability by Pride orgs. I focus in on Pride Toronto and how we can do better. I also talk about some super ableist incidents that happened to disabled people during pride including Stonewall and Flaming Saddles Weho in LA. I also coin the term "bahcumbug" in this episode.…
Wow, it's our 20th disaftdark minisode! In this minisode, I get an e-mail from Jessica, who tells us all about their experiencing dating with a disability; whether they are gay or straight, and their comfortability in simply being alone and feeling complete. It was an awesomely long e-mail, but it resonated with me, and I hope you enjoy! Also, if you have a minisode idea that you want to share, please e-mail disabilityafterdark@gmail.com…
In this episode, I share with you that I love pop culture and celebrities along with sex and disability, so I combined these two loves. I talk about the celebs that I think wouldn't be super ableist (and some who might be a little ableist), and who I'd like to fuck. This one was so fun to do... Enjoy!…
In this minisode, I get a letter all about poop, sex, and disability. Larry asks me about polyamory and disability, and I let you all know about shitty sexual ableism that I have to deal with. Also, find out about a new venture I am working on.
In this episode, I talk about some of the times that I have been in photo shoots. I share 3 stories about what taking sexy photos as a disabled person is like. I talk about how disabled photography may be viewed by non-disabled people, sex and disability in photos, and more. Enjoy! I have added photos to the Facebook Group for this episode. Like us at Facebook.com/disabilityafterdark…
In Minisode 18, I get an e-mail from Spencer who tells us all about his sexy adventures at a Green Day concert in the UK. I get a gentle reminder to watch how I word things, and I'm asked, "what's the difference between hyper-sexualization and asexualization of disabled people." Remember, if you have a story, an anecdote, thought, theory or anything to say on disability that you want included as a minisode, e-mail us at disabilityafterdark@gmail.com.…
In episode 090, I talk with my friend (and new research assistant for the show), Rae. This was a great interview and I hope you enjoy it! I also get a letter from Alice who asks, "How do I work in a residential care setting and talk about sex?" If you have a story, question, an idea for a minisode be sure to send it to disabilityafterdark@gmail.com.…
In this episode, I share with you some stories of things I have done to make boys like me, or stuff I did in the pursuit of peen - or both, and some of these things compromised my disability, health and safety. From flying by myself on airplane with a damaged wheelchair to meet a guy who paid no attention to me, to waiting 3 hours on a fall evening for a hook up who didn't show and also catching pneumonia, and lastly trying to get home from a hook up gone wrong, only to unintentionally flash people my disabled dick! If you did something silly for love, lust peen and everything in betwe…
