On May 19, 1983, 27 year old mother of three Diane Downs pulled up to the door of McKenzie Willamette Hospital in Springfield, Oregon and shouted “Someone just shot my kids.” Cheryl Downs was fatally wounded, while Danny and Christie survived despite serious injuries. Downs claimed that a stranger had tried to steal her car, and then shot her and her children. However, it would soon become clear that Down’s story was fabricated.
