The sacrament of Holy orders confers a special gift of the Holy spirit upon the person receiving this sacrament. This gift unites the person to Christ and allows him to act with the authority of the Church. It is a tradition passed onto the apostles by Jesus Christ and the church in her fidelity to Christ continues this process to this very day as instituted by Him.
