Manage episode 290603648 series 2307288
This is the first episode of 'Cracking the Biggest Interview with Mirza'.
The intention of this episode is to help job seekers answer the most common interview question - 'Tell me something about yourself.'
Quiet a funny question. Right? Though, the interviewer has your resume/CV and has probably gone through it before calling you for a face-to-face round. Yet, no interview can supersede without going through the burp of this question. Well, there are favorable reasons why this question never goes out of fashion. Read on to know:
Intention of the Questions “Tell Me Something About Yourself”.
· Confidence: If you are not confident of what you have done in your life (Skills, Experience, Projects), it becomes difficult for the other party to invest their belief in you.
· Correctness: There are loads of fake profiles made to clear interviews. However, they are not helping in the long run as interviewers are able to catch the fraudsters.
· Consciousness: Even the best candidate with the required skills might not clear interview rounds just because of lack of awareness. You may have the skills and knowledge, but you should be aware as to which skills are required when.
· Coverage: Your skills and knowledge need to be rational and practicable. Your skills should be enough to cover all the tasks that will be entrusted on you.
· Commitment: Your past achievements would be perfect testimonials to showcase the level of commitment and willingness you bring to the table.
The key motive of this century-old question is to strike a conversation, and thereafter understand if you are completely or partially fit, or not at all. Whether you are perfect for the role & position you are getting interviewed for or you would be a better fit for a lateral position.
How to go about answering this Question?
It is ideal to start answering with your full name, the maximum education qualification, and your current work location. Thereafter, you can talk a little about your biggest achievements and highlights of your career. You should make it crisp – say the best 4 lines that describe you as a professional.
It is intelligent to mention personal achievements as well. However, those should be tailored as per the role and position you are applying for.
For example,
· If you are applying for the role of a Content Writer, you can mention that your debut novel is getting published next month.
· A Developer may talk about a website that he/she created for his college football team.
· A designer may showcase the walls of his own house that he designed.
