The Cardinals staked out an early lead with Kyle Gibson giving them exactly what was needed, but a bullpen stretched thin was forced to turn to one of its non-leverage guys in a leverage spot--and things quickly went downhill from there.

The offense did some good things, but not enough of them. They hit into some bad luck, so there's not a ton to reasonably be angry over. But it's a microcosm of a larger truth, the Cardinals don't have time to let games like this one get away between now and the end of the year.

And the schedule is starting to heat up. It'll be a gauntlet. Can STL handle the heat?
