×More than 14,000 rescue workers have arrived in Tibet to continue the search for survivors after a strong earthquake struck in a remote part of western China. At least 126 people have been killed while more than 400 people have been rescued, Chinese state media says. The rescue operation is being hampered by winter temperatures that dropped to -16C overnight. Earthquakes are common in the region, which lies on a major geological fault line, but Tuesday's was one of China's deadliest in recent years. 11:29Firefighters in California are battling three different blazes in and around Los Angeles, including a ferocious one that has ripped through the affluent Pacific Palisades neighbourhood. At least 30,000 people were ordered to evacuate as the blaze in the west of the city exploded rapidly from 10 acres to nearly 3,000 in size. Los Angeles residents abandoned their cars to flee a fast-moving wildfire as it closed in on a picturesque celebrity enclave, eyewitnesses say. The fire - which broke out about 10:30 (18:30 GMT) on Tuesday - rapidly spread in incredibly dry conditions and high winds. Los Angeles has declared a state of emergency as a wildfire exploded from 10 acres to more than 2,900 acres in hours. Officials say the blaze grew from 20 acres to more than 200 acres in about 20 minutes after it was reported about 10:30 local time. Fire chief Kristin Crowley has ordered more than 30,000 people to evacuate, and said 13,000 buildings are under threat. The wildfire’s growth has been fuelled by a fierce wind event that has placed a large portion of the state under a red flag warning. The US President-elect Donald Trump has ramped up threats to seize control of Greenland and the Panama Canal, calling both critical to US national security. Asked at a press conference if he would rule out using military or economic force in order to take over the autonomous Danish territory or the Panama Canal, he responded: "No, I can't assure you on either of those two…. but I can say this, we need them for economic security.” Both Denmark and Panama have rejected any suggestion that they would voluntarily give up their territory. Mr Trump also said he planned to use “economic force” when asked if he would attempt to annex Canada, calling the US-Canada border an "artificially drawn line". During the news conference at Mr Trump’s Mar-a- Lago estate in Florida he also criticised environmental regulations, the US electoral system and suggested renaming the Gulf of Mexico the "Gulf of America”. 32:31Today, we look at why Meta is bringing to an end the use of independent fact-checkers on Facebook and Instagram - and replacing them with ‘community notes’. In a video posted online Mark Zuckerberg said third-party moderators were "too politically biased" and it was "time to get back to our roots around free expression". Adam is joined by Vivian Schiller, vice president and executive director of Aspen Digital, and former head of news at Twitter. And, as Sir Keir Starmer is under pressure to launch a UK-wide investigation into grooming gangs, Adam speaks to Tom Symonds, the BBC’s political correspondent, and Alison Holt, the BBC’s social affairs editor, about what was learnt from past inquiries into child sexual abuse. US President-elect Donald Trump has threatened "very high" tariffs on Denmark if it resists his effort to take control of Greenland, an autonomous Danish territory. Asked during a news conference Tuesday if he would rule out using military or economic force in order to take control of the strategically-important island, he said: "No, I can't assure you on either of those two." "I can say this, we need them for economic security," he said. Trump also said he would use "economic force" against Canada and called the US-Canada border an "artificially drawn line". Meta is abandoning the use of independent fact checkers on Facebook and Instagram, replacing them with X-style "community notes" where commenting on the accuracy of posts is left to users. Chief executive Mark Zuckerberg said third-party moderators were "too politically biased" and it was "time to get back to our roots around free expression". Zuckerberg and other tech executives are seeking to improve relations with US President-elect Donald Trump before he takes office later this month. In a wide-ranging news conference on Tuesday, when asked whether he thought Meta was introducing the changes due to threats he had made towards the company, Trump replied, "Probably." At the same event, he also said he wanted to rename the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America. French far-right politician Jean-Marie Le Pen has died aged 96, according to a family statement shared with AFP. Le Pen, who had been in a care facility for several weeks, died at midday on Tuesday "surrounded by his loved ones", the family said. Le Pen - a Holocaust denier and an unrepentant extremist on race, gender and immigration - founded the French far-right National Front party in 1972. He reached the presidential election-run off against Jacques Chirac in 2002. Le Pen's daughter, Marine, took over as party chief in 2011 and has since rebranded the party as National Rally, turning it into one of France's main political forces. 37:11Today, we look at Keir Starmer’s response to what he calls “lies and misinformation” being spread over grooming gangs. It comes after multi-billionaire Elon Musk accused the UK Prime Minister of being "complicit in the rape of Britain" during his time as director of public prosecutions for failing to tackle grooming gangs. Adam and Chris discuss his response in a press conference on Monday, and reflect on what impact Musk and President-elect Trump are already having on world politics. Adam and Chris are also joined by Stephen Kinnock, the Care Minister to talk through the government’s plan to tackle hospital backlogs. Justin Trudeau has resigned as leader of Canada's governing party after nearly a decade as prime minister. Trudeau said on Monday in a news conference in Ottawa that he will stay on as PM until a new Liberal Party leader is chosen. He said, "This country deserves a real choice in the next election and it has become clear to me that if I'm having to fight internal battles, I cannot be the best option in that election." He also addressed the exit of his former finance minister Chrystia Freeland, which is credited as sparking a renewed pressure from within his party and elsewhere to step down. Ukraine has launched a counter-attack in Russia's Kursk region, the Russian defence ministry says. As officials in Ukraine also suggested an operation was under way, Moscow said it had met the attack with artillery and air power. Ukrainian forces entered the region near the Ukraine border in August, seizing a chunk of territory. Russian forces have pushed them back in some areas without managing to eject them entirely.
