One night, while he is playing roulette at the Cherokee Palace, trouble breaks out. As the story opens, Matt arrives to arrest Stanley and we learn he had been drinking, became upset over losing, grabbed some poker chips off a table and threw a whiskey bottle at Mingo, the saloon owner. As the Matt investigates, however, it becomes unclear if Jim Stanley is the real culprit. Do the accusations made by Mingo truly hold up? There appear to be many conflicting motives -- and it is up to the marshal to sort them out.
