12 - Priscilla and Remembering Rice ft. Dr. Edda Fields-Black
Manage episode 276544328 series 2819004
This week we are exploring the story of Priscilla, a woman whose journey across the Atlantic from Africa towards the rice plantations of Charleston, SC has been captured through rare records. Together we imagine what it would be like if every Black person in this country knew even a bit more about their ancestor's personal journey.
We are also joined by Dr. Edda L. Fields-Black, a history professor, librettist, and self-proclaimed expert on rice. We are talking about her personal connection with her work, and delving into her piece dedicated to remembering our ancestors who worked on rice plantations.
