This is a spotlight on the Scripture, Jeremiah 6:16 Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said We will not walk therein.
The text says, "Ask for the old paths, where the good way is." These words are symbolic, representing true religion as a journey. If you ask, "What is the way to heaven?" I refer to what Jesus said to Thomas: "I am the way. No one comes to the Father except through Me." Christ is the way from sin to holiness, darkness to light, bondage to freedom, misery to happiness, and from hell's gates to heaven's throne.
How is He the way? By His example: "Follow His steps." By His teaching: "He teaches God's way in truth." By His sacrificial death: "We can confidently enter God's presence by the blood of Jesus, through a new and living way He made for us." By His Spirit: "The Spirit of truth will guide you into all truth."
How do we walk in this way? Through "repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ." "Unless you repent, you will perish." "Believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and you will be saved." "Whoever believes will not perish."
The way described in our text is not "the broad way" that leads to destruction, nor "the hard way" pursued by sinners, nor the way that seems right but ends in death. It is the good way and the old path.
Which has always been Christ Jesus.
