The Lord is near. 6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers and sisters, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is admirable—if anything is excellent or praiseworthy—think about such things. 9 Whatever you have learned or received or heard from me or seen in me—put it into practice. And the God of peace will be with you. C- OMMAND Phil 4:4, “Rejoice in the Lord always. February 9, 2025 Series: Courageous Faith Sermon: The Courage to Heal Scripture: Mark 5:25-34 NAS ““A woman who had had a hemorrhage for twelve years, and had endured much at the hands of many physicians, and had spent all that she had and was not helped at all, but rather had grown worse— after hearing about Jesus, she came up in the crowd behind Him and touched His cloak. For she thought, “If I just touch His garments, I will get well.” Immediately the flow of her blood was dried up; and she felt in her body that she was healed of her affliction. Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” And His disciples said to Him, “You see the crowd pressing in on You, and You say, ‘Who touched Me?’ ” And He looked around to see the woman who had done this. But the woman fearing and trembling, aware of what had happened to her, came and fell down before Him and told Him the whole truth. And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.”” INTRODUCTION: Mountains are made to be moved! A Bold Action... “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” -Hebrews 11:6 NIV Desperation on Display: She heard about Jesus She came up behind Jesus in the crowd She reach out and touched Jesus Faith without works is dead. -James A Merciful Savior... Immediately Jesus, perceiving in Himself that the power proceeding from Him had gone forth, turned around in the crowd and said, “Who touched My garments?” -Mark 5:30 NASB Jesus' Response to the Woman: Jesus felt power leave him. Jesus turned around. Jesus asked, "Who touched my garments?" A Transformative Outcome... And He said to her, “Daughter, your faith has made you well; go in peace and be healed of your affliction.” -Mark 5:34 NASB The woman was healed: Emotionally: "Daughter." Physically: "Your faith and healed you." Spiritually: "Go in peace and be healed of your affliction..." He said to his servants, “Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.”” INTRODUCTION: The church has been empowered by the Holy Spirit to go make disciples of all nations. Jesus has all authority... Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. -Matthew 28:18 Jesus has given us authority... What is authority (Exousia)? Authority is the right or privilege to exercise influence or control. It implies a recognized position or role that grants ability to influence or direct others. “He replied, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.” -Luke 10:18-19 NIV “Jesus called his twelve disciples to him and gave them authority to drive out impure spirits and to heal every disease and sickness.” -Matthew 10:1 NIV Jesus has given us power... What is power (Dunamis)? Power is the ability or capacity to do something, often emphasizing strength, might, or miraculous abilities. It is the ability to enact authority or to perform actions. “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”” Acts 1:8 NIV Conclusion: Not only has Jesus given us power but he has given us the authority to function in the power of the Holy Spirit. “He said to them, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation. Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved, but whoever does not believe will be condemned. He went to him and bandaged his wounds, pouring on oil and wine. Then he put the man on his own donkey, brought him to an inn and took care of him. The next day he took out two denarii and gave them to the innkeeper. ‘Look after him,’ he said, ‘and when I return, I will reimburse you for any extra expense you may have.’ “Which of these three do you think was a neighbor to the man who fell into the hands of robbers?” The expert in the law replied, “The one who had mercy on him.” Jesus told him, “Go and do likewise.”” INTRODUCTION: Like the Good Samaritan, we must all find time to kind. The Man... A man was going down from Jerusalem to Jericho, when he fell into the hands of robbers. They stripped him of his clothes, beat him and went away, leaving him half dead. -Luke 10:30 For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. -Romans 3:23 For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 6:23 Who is the man in the story? The Religious... “A priest happened to be going down the same road, and when he saw the man, he passed by on the other side. So too, a Levite, when he came to the place and saw him, passed by on the other side.” -Luke 10:31-32 NIV Without Jesus, all religious activity is powerless to change our lives and to help others! The Good Samaritan... Who is the Good Samaritan in the story? He came to where the man was. He took compassion on the man. He oil and wine on his wounds and bandage them. He picked him up. December 15, 2024 Series: The Great Gift Exchange Sermon: Give God Your Hurt and He'll Give You His Healing Scripture: Matthew 1:18-23 'This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about : His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly. But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel” (which means “God with us”).
