20:50This episode dives into the significant political question posed by Ronald Reagan during the closing moments of his 1980 presidential debate with Jimmy Carter: 'Are you better off than you were four years ago?' Ken Woodward explores the context of the 1980 political climate, marked by economic difficulties, high inflation, unemployment, and international issues such as the Iran hostage crisis and concerns about U.S. global standing and nuclear threats. Reagan's question, which became iconic in U.S. political discourse, was noted for its simplicity, personal relevance, emotional resonance, and strategic timing. The question invited voters to reflect on their circumstances rather than abstract policies, ultimately contributing to Reagan's landslide victory. The episode details six crucial lessons for crafting influential questions, emphasizing audience perspective, engagement, simplicity, timing, self-reflection, and a call to action. Listeners are encouraged to consider how such questions have shaped their decisions and to apply these insights in personal and professional contexts. This Curated Questions episode can be found on all major platforms and at CuratedQuestions.com . Keep questioning! Is it easier for you to go and buy things in the stores than it was four years ago? Is there more or less unemployment in the country than there was four years ago? Is America as respected throughout the world as it was? Do you feel that our security is as safe, that we're as strong as we were four years ago? Where do you feel it in your body? What emotions come to the surface? What pictures race through your mind? Would it kill you to stop chewing your food with your mouth open? What is your number seven? What comes to mind? Did you feel the knee-jerk need to answer right away when your politician asked? Did you actually do the homework to determine what factors were most important to you, then look at data vice depending on emotion? Is it any easier to see why someone in a different circumstance may answer differently than you? How did the question affect your answer when the opposing politician asked it? Did you use the same metric for the candidates or give your preferred candidate extra leeway? What famous questions continue to pop up in your world?…

Tag Team's "Whoomp There It Is" or 95 South's "Whoot There It Is"? Regardless of the answer, one thing is for certain, booties are gonna be shakin'. 1:35:08In this episode Brandi and Steven step into the square circle to debate the best wrestler of the 1990s. In one corner, from the Golden Era of wrestling is Bret “The Hitman” Hart. And from the Attitude Era, we’ve got Latino Heat himself, Eddie Guerrero. Joining us to referee is Ari Trujillo-John , the co-founder and CEO of the community organizing app, Openfield. We go deep on the history of wrestling from its barnstorming days to the commercial juggernaut it is today. We also give Chyna her due for her influence in breaking the mold for women wrestlers. 49:11In this bonus episode of Bring Receipts we give you an exclusive listen to an unpublished chapter from Brandi's book Black Skinhead: Reflections on Blackness and Our Political Future ( available for pre-order now ). In this chapter, titled the Stories We Die With, Brandi peels back the story of "America" to reveal the erased histories and unresolved trauma that this country is built on. Brandi explores the founding of American democracy, the construction of race, and even her own family history to show us how each of us is connected to this past. We release this episode on January 6th, the anniversary of the insurrection that rocked the Capitol a year ago fueled by the lie of a stolen election. Some may reflect on the devastation of that day while others will simply ignore it. That's the moment we're in, polarized and living in different realities. But as Brandi's chapter lays out, this current reality "can't change because they're so deeply rooted in our society, in us, rotting from the inside out." Change means reckoning with the real history of harm, a history of stolen land, slavery and racialized violence. This episode while being released publicly was developed for our Patreon supporters. 1:43:00This episode is dedicated to Coach Jimmy Collins, longtime Marvin Gaye fan and loving father of Bring Receipts co-host Brandi Collins-Dexter. Coach Collins passed away in December 2020. In this episode, Brandi argues that Marvin Gaye's rendition of the national anthem at the 1983 NBA All-Star Game is the only version America deserves. Steven, though a fan of this version, completely disagrees. Joining the podcast to decide who is right is Matt Howard, the current National Organizer for Communications at Right to the City Alliance and previously was the Co-Executive Director at About Face: Veterans Against the War . This episode covers Marvin Gaye's musical career, the history of the Star Spangled Banner (did you know it came from a drinking song?), and revolutionary drum machine the Roland TR-808, and major events from 1982.
