The CIL Energy Law and Policy Team is joined in conversation by Professor Raphael Heffron , one of the world’s leading academics and researchers on just transition and has been active in this field since 2016. In recognition of his research and teaching in this area, he was awarded a European Commission Jean Monnet Chair (Professor) in the Just Transition in 2019. In Part 2, Professor Heffron discusses the UN Secretary-General’s Panel Critical Energy Transition Minerals Recommendations on “Resourcing the Energy Transition Principles to Guide Critical Energy Transition Minerals Towards Equity and Justice” and their significance to the application of the “Just Transition” concept to the critical minerals sector. He also shares his ideas on how legal and other mechanisms could help to drive the just transition.
