… using Qgis and Scribus with a little help from Inkscape, and Ghostscript. ### A happy-ending story about finding out the tips and tricks along the way. Last November, we've been comissioned to produce a small series of printed maps for a cultural center in Lessines, Belgium, to celebrate memories of Louis Scutenaire and René Magritte. We aimed for a project using three colors, and decided to go for spot color printing - using libre graphics tools, mainly QGIS for the design of the map, and Scribus for layout elements and to prepare the pdfs for printing. We also used Inkscape to vectorize some small illustrations, as well as Ghostscript to check and sometimes fix the resulting PDFs. Then, once we decided that it would be spot color printing, we had to find out a workflow from QGIS to Scribus in order to produce PDFs for spot-color printing. It was not without a few obstacles that we encountered, as both QGIS and Scribus present limitations in terms of color processing or vector rendering. Now it also explores the world of general animation with type as a principal actor, and document creation with general typography in mind and typographical automations based on expert knowledge. TypeRoof is **intended as a host** for all kinds of type related tools, providing advanced methods of resource loading (i.e. fonts, data files) saving and restoring state etc. – features which ad-hoc developed tools typically miss out, as they are hard to do right on limited time. So, is LGM all about libre tools that software developers make that designers and artists use to make creative work … ? At previous LGMs we’ve talked about open-source design feeding back into improving the look, feel and usability of creative software. But what about the tools used to write those tools? Can we link things back another step? Coding environments have barely changed in decades. Yet the complexity of software produced in them has risen exponentially. The disconnect from cause to effect has become ever greater. All software has bugs, most bugs involve software doing exactly what it was told to do. Sometimes they eat your work, sometimes they kill people. The title of this talk is partly “borrowed” from an article that appeared in The Atlantic in 2017. But is it all hyperbole? This talk was originally proposed for the cancelled LGM in 2020 - the landscape may have evolved since then, such as in the growth of AI, but has it improved? Let’s consider some of the issues. And ongoing experiments in user interaction, liveness and design in various open-source tools that are seeking to change coding for the better. This talk may cover some of the ideas in play. But it certainly won’t have the right answers. It probably hasn’t even found the right questions. But just maybe it’s time to help save the world from code. In this presentation, we partly follow this year's topic "RE:imagination" and will explore old but not old-fashioned printer control languages such as HP-GL (1970s and 1980s) and PostScript (1980s) and device-specific commands for dot matrix printers (1980s) to better understand how we relate to printers and printing today. What can we learn from these languages from current graphic practices and perspectives? What context were these languages developed in? Which aesthetics can be created with them today and which tools are needed to do so? How can the sharing culture of the FLOSS/LGM community be applied to such old "closed source" devices? This artistic, media archeological, and auto-ethnographic research is part of the Master Experimental Publishing (XPUB) in Rotterdam, where we, students and teachers, studied these languages together in the first 3 months of this year on the most obsolete and almost discarded printing devices of our university. Expect a presentation about frustrations with serial connections, dust removal with compressed air, porous plastic that disintegrates into small pieces, glitch aesthetic with PostScript and the practice of working within the obstacles of dying devices. The session will start with an introduction to the topic of usability and user experience (UX), including the human centered design process (HCD) and design thinking (DT). After having laid out the foundation, a brief overview of different usability evaluation methods is given. The main part of the presentation is about introducing two often used methods: On the one hand the heuristic evaluation as an example of a usability inspection method, and usability testing on the other hand. Both methods can be used to find (potential) usability problems in a software. Whereas a heuristic evaluation is conducted by an expert following a check-list, a usability test needs end users who fulfill tasks to be conducted. After describing how both methods can be used individually, also a practical way to combining them is presented. Hubs is an open-source interactive browser based 3D meeting space. It is now fully integrated in Blender 3D, which is using an extended version of the gltf format. An extension allows you to attach all the basic components to objects, like particles, UV animations, water and much more. But you can also share links, videos and audio right inside your 3D rooms. Soon another feature was added to the gtlf exporter, the Behavior Graph. It enables interactivity via node-based logic and is only available in Blender 3D. It is the very feature we would like to present to you. If you are used to Blender’s nodes graphs, you might feel right at home. [Hyper 8](https://simonrepp.com/hyper8) is a static site generator for video, developed since 2023 and first released in 2024. It uses a file-based, modular building block system for authoring video sites ranging from single videos, to playlists, to video collections of arbitrary hierarchical complexity. Sites can be created and edited using Hyper 8's graphical user interface, but also using nothing more than a terminal, file explorer and text editor (or both). Due to their static nature, Hyper 8 sites are inherently fast, maintenance-free, long-term archivable (also working offline without a server, directly off disk) and compatible with pretty much every webhost (thereby easy to publish and move). In this talk I want to take you on a whirlwind tour around the project: Who is this for? What was the motivation? How does this relate to PeerTube? What is being developed at the moment? At the 2014 edition of LGM in Leipzig I've shown the evolution on printed circuit board design with a special focus on fonts, which were mostly constrained by the technical capabilities of the tools available at that time. Ten years later, however, there now is a strong Free Software option for designing your own PCBs and there is a growing community of artists using PCBs as a medium for artistic expression, a lot of them actually using KiCAD for the design work. I want to showcase examples of PCBs where the properties of PCBs are used to create visually appealing hardware. I'll also give a quick tour through KiCAD to show the limits of its capabilities as well as its strong side for graphical artworks. Their needs for video editing solutions are diverse, and so is their budget. Open-source video editing software seems great for beginners to get started at zero cost. What do you get and what do you have to give up on compared to the closed-source options? What does it even take to build software like this from scratch, technologically as well as mentally? This talk takes a brief look at the free-to-use options for video editing on a desktop computer before switching the perspective to that of the developers and maintainers of such software. Images created with digital graphic techniques have played a central role in promoting the seemingly endless growth of a computing culture that many of us now recognize as extractive, polluting and exploitative. Beyond that, something that once promised a utopian future now feels like it has delivered a rather crappy, disappointing reality. FLOSS has undoubtedly played some role in this development, but it also holds a great potential as part of a shift in imagination to new practices and aesthetics that are more verdant, just and humane. This presentation will propose the concept of "Permacomputing" as a useful lens to consider the role of FLOSS in developing alternative practices. Permacomputing is both a concept and a community of practice oriented around issues of resilience and regenerativity in computer and network technology inspired by permaculture. We will start with a brief introduction to the concepts and emerging projects around these ideas. With these notions in mind, we can then examine how some of the existing practices of Libre Graphics might inspire or give relevant support to newer, more holistic ways of working. And finally, we will look at some specific examples of software development, education and image making using the generative flora of computing within limits. The Curious Case of Splines in FreeCAD (lgm2025) 18:01

Splines, especially in their general form as NURBS, are an extremely versatile tool in a 3D designer's kit. They allow the designer to succinctly and efficiently model objects of arbitrary shape and smoothness. For converting these designs into physical objects, FreeCAD has a vast set of tools to operate on NURBS, both as planar curves and (with addons) as surfaces. However, the complications of NURBS can also cause a good amount of confusion, especially compared to other representations of splines, which may be more familiar to the user from other applications (which may include other CAE apps as well as more artistic tools like Inkscape). In this talk, I discuss some of these common questions often seen in the issue tracker and forums, as well as best practices to follow for common workflows. I also showcase current progress and future plans to make the experience more intuitive and in line with other apps. Let's All Go Back To Bitmap Fonts! (lgm2025) 21:52

Scalable vector fonts have been the norm for decades, but that doesn't mean artists and hackers don't have use cases where a bitmap font fits the bill (and it doesn't mean that classic bitmap font designs deserve to be forgotten, either). This session explores two distinct scenarios where bitmap fonts have a role to play and looks at the tooling needed to convert or repackage older bitmap formats for convenient usage in modern free-software applications. The first scenario is enabling vintage computing aesthetics in graphic design: there are several paths available to transform bitmap fonts into forms usable in Inkscape, GIMP, and other open-source design tools. The second scenario is getting text onto inexpensive LCD, LED, and OLED display hardware. Most such display hardware allows the runtime loading or flashing of bitmap characters, but pitfalls abound. Options and recommendations for both scenarios will be examined, with demos drawn from vintage arcade fonts and the classic Xorg/X11 font suite. To conclude, the talk will outline the licensing issues likely to arise when dealing with bitmap font packages that so often predate contemporary free-software licenses. UpStage, the artist-led platform for cyberformance (live online performance), celebrated its 20 th anniversary in 2024 along with the completion of the four-year Creative Europe funded artistic project Mobilise/Demobilise. This project enabled a complete “RE:imagination” of the UpStage code, removing its dependency on Flash, introducing new features and bringing it up to date with current technologies. The last time we presented UpStage at LGM, in 2021, we had just begun this process; since then, the new platform has been launched and development is ongoing. In this presentation, our Lead Developer Gloria W. and UpStage Persister Helen Varley Jamieson will present the new platform and its features including its integration of Jitsi for audio-visual streams, audience interaction and live text and drawing tools. Most recently the developers have implemented Docker and made other improvements to the backend, to make installation of independent instances easier and testing more automated. Alongside the development work, UpStage continues to actively promote the use of open source tools by artists, and the involvement of artists in the development of our digital tools. This is ever more important as LLM (so-called AI) and the increasing hegemony of proprietary social and creative platforms force artists into their paradigms. The State of Processing: How We’re Bringing a Creative Coding Icon Back to Life (lgm2025) 21:17

Processing is one of the most widely used open-source tools for creative coding and CS education. Since it was first released in 2001, it has been instrumental in teaching coding to students, artists, and designers worldwide, serving as a gateway into programming for people who might never have touched code otherwise. A remarkable thing about Processing is the consistency of its API. Most Processing code written twenty years ago still runs in Processing today with only minor changes. That kind of longevity is rare in software and speaks to the project's thoughtful design. But behind the scenes, the project has been struggling. For a long time, Processing relied on a small, dedicated core team. As contributors moved on, fewer people remained who understood the full complexity of the codebase. Maintenance became harder. Key libraries stopped working. By the time Processing 4 was released, the project was already in a difficult place. In 2021, a major fundraiser for Processing’s 20th anniversary brought unprecedented financial support, but it also sparked difficult conversations about the project’s future. In 2023, Processing’s historical maintainer, Ben Fry, cut ties with the project, and with no clear direction, development stalled for over a year. Many assumed Processing was dead. It is not. That same support that brought uncertainty also made recovery possible. Over the past year, a small group of contributors, with support from the Processing Foundation, has restarted development, modernized infrastructure, and begun the slow, difficult work of making Processing a sustainable open-source project again. Processing will turn 25 in 2026, and we’re working to make it last for another 25 years! This talk is an honest look at what it takes to keep a beloved open-source project alive, the progress we’ve made, and why the community’s role in its future is more critical than ever. An overview of D-Bus, systemd, and systemd's own D-Bus implementation, [`sd-bus`](https://0pointer.net/blog/the-new-sd-bus-api-of-systemd.html). Less slide show, more live coding in Python and [`asyncio`](https://docs.python.org/3/library/asyncio.html>). D-Bus is a broker-based interprocess communication mechanism which has been used for ages in Linux's desktop environments like [GNOME](https://www.gnome.org/) or [KDE](https://kde.org/). [systemd](https://systemd.io/), the Linux init system and service manager, likewise consists of many loosely coupled components. Since systemd's inception, likewise, its components are using D-Bus to communicate. Over time, the systemd developers have become uncomfortable with the existing D-Bus implementation they were using. They created another implementation, [sd-bus](https://0pointer.net/blog/the-new-sd-bus-api-of-systemd.html), tailored towards systemd's needs - minimal and fast. This talk gives an overview of D-Bus and its concepts, and then shows how sd-bus is used to implement one's own interfaces and components. Out of its many language bindings, we will use Python to implement a use case, just to show how simple this is. Quantenkryptographie ist wichtig, weil Quantencomputer in etwa zehn Jahren die derzeitigen Verschlüsselungsmethoden brechen werden. Neben den PQC-Ansatz bietet auch QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) eine Lösung, indem es quantenmechanische Effekte wie z.B. verschränkte Photonen verwendet, um sichere Schlüssel für symmetrische Verschlüsselung ohne Schlüsselaustausch zu erzeugen. Vorstellung eines Use-case welcher Cancom im Zuge eines Europäischen Forschungsprojekt (QCI-CAT) geleitet vom AIT umgesetzt hat. In diesem Projekt wurde ein fehlendes Puzzlestück auf Opensource Basis entwickelt, das Resultat "Arnika" - Quantenresistentes VPN basierend auf Wireguard. Arnika kann über eine ETSI014 Schnittstelle Schlüsselmaterial von einem QKD (Quantum Key Distribution) System abrufen und in Wireguard VPN als pre-shared Key injecten. Zusätzlich kann es Schlüsselmaterial von einem PQC System zb. Rosenpass verwenden und via HKDF eine Kombination aus QKD und PQC Schlüssel an Wireguard VPN als PSK weitergeben. Wie mit Hilfe des Open Source Werkzeugkastens (mimtproxy, curl, jq, ..) ein behördlich eingesetztes System analysiert und dabei die Sicherheitsversprechen des Herstellers in Frage gestellt wurden. Aufgrund fehlender Sicherheitsmechanismen war (ist?) es für unprivilegierten Benutzeraccounts in der „moPS App Engine“ möglich willkürliche Schreiboperationen durchzuführen. Hierdurch werden in Folge mehrere Angriffsszenarien wie Rechteausweitung, Datenabgriff, -manipulation und auch die komplette Übernahme des Systems möglich. Das System wird z.Z. von verschiedenen Bundesländern Österreichs, der ASFINAG oder auch der deutschen Bundespolizei eingesetzt. Obwohl bereits im Sommer 2021 auf grundsätzliche architekturelle Fehler hingewiesen wurde, dauerte die Behebung ebenjener bis Winter 2024. Ein Vortrag über den Fund der Schwachstellen Spaß beim Proof-Of-Concept (mitm, curl, ... ) sich daraus ergebenden Bedrohungsszenarien langsam mahlende Mühlen der öffentlichen Hand, Überforderung von Entscheidungsträgern und der Angst vor Kunden mit einem vorläufigen Happy End. The keyboard is your main interface to the computer and most of us use it for hours everyday. Therefore, it makes sense to have the keyboard customized to your liking. We will explain what mechanical keyboards are and what different levels of customization are possible and why you may want them. Additionally we present the necessary tools, skills and resources you need and show you how easy it is to either modify a commercial keyboard or create your own - completely new from scratch. # DIY: Build your own mechanical Keyboard ### Why, how, and how deep is the rabbit hole? Improving the office setup usually doesn't go much further than buying an ergonomic chair or maybe a wrist rest. However, the keyboard is your main interface to the computer and most of us use it for hours everyday without ever thinking about it. Therefore, it makes sense to improve the experience and have the keyboard customized to your liking. This can be done with mechanical keyboards, which are often seen as superior to the more common membrane keyboards. They usually offer a better typing experience with options for tactile and audible (clicky) feedback, are more durable and damaged keys can be easily replaced, while switches can even be hot-swapped. Additionally they allow all kinds of customizations up to a completely custom build. First, we will explain what mechanical keyboards are, how they work and why you may want one. To illustrate this, we will briefly tell about our journeys and different reasons why we finally ended up building our own keyboards. Next, we will talk about different levels of "building your own" keyboard. Starting from programming different layouts and exchanging switches on a commercial one, over changing the firmware up to completely building a keyboard, either from some open hardware project or from scratch, creating your own unique keyboard. We will explain in detail the different customization options, which skills and tools are necessary, which resources are available and how easy it really is to build a keyboard. Digital typesetting is the art of creating digital documents based on user-provided data. In this talk, I want to ask the question: are we digital typesetting yet? There is a myriad of requirements for a modern typesetting system: From Unicode support to i18n, i10n, and a11y. From a large corpus of markup languages to multiple image file formats. From EPUB to PDF. People do not want to miss out latest trends in typography like variable fonts and emojis. And in the end, every part could be provided by a human, a computer, or some AI. Do we have the tools at hand? Can one system even implement all those requirements? I want to evaluate how various tools like established LaTeχ, newcomer typst, and various others like speedata Publisher and SILE satisfy those requirements. The idea of a gamejam is to cocreate minigames which are conceptionalized, developed and ready for playtesting within 48 hours. With the advent of verified/secure boot, bootloaders have become critical components in the chain of trust for embedded Linux systems. This talk will explore common security issues in verified boot implementations and provide an in-depth analysis of vulnerabilities found in popular bootloaders. Attendees will learn about the implications of these vulnerabilities and practical mitigation strategies to enhance device security. Over decades, the role of bootloaders has been rather straightforward, loading an operating system kernel and starting it, optionally with some configuration or visual enhancements. However, with the rise of verified, or secure boot, bootloaders now find themselves at the beginning of the chain of trust. Being a member of the chain of trust comes with significant responsibility. Bugs or misconfigurations are no longer just unpleasant; they now undermine the entire security concept of a device. In this talk, Richard will highlight common problems he has encountered in verified boot implementations of embedded Linux systems. Warum will der Zoll bei Warenbewegungen so viele Daten haben und was passiert damit? Die Komplexität scheint enorm. Aber ist das ganze sinnlose Bürokratie, oder gibt es da auch positive Aspekte, wie zum Beispiel den Kampf gegen illegale Waffenlieferungen. Gegen ein Freihandelsabkommen sind wir auf die Straße gegangen; andere finden wir gut. Wie soll man das als Laie bewerten? Das Ganze wird ein kurzer Ritt durch die Begriffswelten der internationalen Handelskontrolle, und dessen (politische) Intention, ein Ausblick auf die EU-Zollrechtsreform und auch ein kleines bisschen politisches Cyber. Dass man die Lithium-Polymer Zelle aus E-Zigaretten ausbauen und wieder aufladen kann hat sich in den letzten Jahren herumgesprochen. Aber was ist eigentlich noch alles drin? Und kann man damit auch etwas anfangen? Mit der Zeit ist die Vielfalt der kleinen Dampfen immer größer geworden, bunt, blinkend, aufladbar. Der Markt ist riesig, die Konkurrenz groß. Wir schauen uns den Stammbaum der E-Zigaretten an, von der Minimalversion bis zum Maximalausbau. Ein kleiner Exkurs durch die Chemie, die drin steckt, und warum so viele Sorten "Ice" im Namen haben. Und nicht zuletzt: Wer hat's eigentlich erfunden? In den letzten Jahren sind sie in aller Munde - E-Zigaretten in allen Formen und Farben. In großen Städten findet man sie gelegentlich am Straßenrand liegen, obwohl sie eigentlich ordnungsgemäß entsorgt werden müssten. Es wären etliche Debatten zu führen: Suchtgefahr ist ein Problem und Marketing an junge Erwachsene ist kein Zufall. Wie ist der Stand der Gesellschaftlichen Debatte? Was ist mit dem Müll? Das Batterierücknahmegesetz schreibt vor, dass Verkäufer alte Geräte zurücknehmen müssen. Die Praxis sieht anders aus. Zum Glück sind tatsächlich einige interessante Bauteile im Inneren zu finden. Wer würde denken, dass in einer E-Zigarette mehr Rechenpower steckt als in dem verbreiteten Arduino Uno? Zuletzt noch ein paar Ideen, wie man Komponenten für den einen oder anderen kreativen Zweck umfunktionieren könnte. Monatelange Wartezeiten und große Wartelisten sind die Regel statt der Ausnahme. Eine Eigenheit der Erreichbarkeit von Therapeut:innen sind die Telefonzeiten. Psychotherapeut:innen sind bei vollem Versorgungsauftrag verpflichtet, 200 Minuten pro Woche für Terminkoordination erreichbar zu sein. Dieser Schritt kann mit Hilfe von etwas Automatisierung und Abfrage der API der 116117 und deren Arztsuche vereinfacht werden als ein Puzzleteil von vielen. Female professors losing their positions under dubious circumstances following questionable investigations - illegal, surely? Victim support services silencing the very people they’re meant to protect - unthinkable? Cases like these - just as recently published in SPIEGEL and Deutsche Welle - occasionally make headlines, often to be dismissed as isolated incidents. What if they point to a deeper, systemic issue within German scientific institutions? This talk examines structural weaknesses, governance failures, and the patterns behind power abuse in academia. We will dive into the inner workings of a system engineered to protect abusers rather than the abused or the public interest. Through three in-depth and well documented case studies, we illustrate how unchecked authority, entrenched discrimination, and wasted taxpayer money permeate every level of a major German research organization. The so-called “governance” not only fails to address these abuses but actively sustains them. All mechanisms meant to protect and ensure integrity have fallen short: self-regulation is toothless, political oversight - particularly from the BMBF - is absent, and media coverage mostly fails to spark change. Gemeinsame Datenreise und Erkundungstour in die Welt der Überwachungs- und Sicherheitsindustrie an Hand eines konkreten Überwachungsgerätes + Software (für Positions-, Video-, Audioaufklärung). Die entsprechende Software ist von Ermittlungsbehörden weltweit im Einsatz (u.a. Polizeieinheiten und Zollämtern in Europa) und weist gravierende Sicherheitslücken (Zero Day Exploits, u.a. Path Traversal Vulnerabilities und authenticated Remote Code Executions) auf. Unsere Reise führt uns über eine Bundestagsanfrage zu internationalen Vertriebsfirmen, hilfreichen Benutzeranleitungen, schwindelerregenden Schwachstellen und endet schließlich in mehreren Polizei-Computern (Zugriff auf entsprechende Systeme). Nicht erst seit dem "Sicherheitspaket" der Ampel fordern PolitikerInnen mehr Befugnisse für Sicherheitsbehörden und ein technisches Aufrüsten. Ganz oben auf der Wunschliste stehen immer wieder umfassendere Videoüberwachungen und Superdatenbanken mit biometrischer Erkennung. Doch wie sicher sind solche Aufklärungsgeräte? Und welche Folgen kann die Kompromittierung von Überwachungsgeräten haben? Im Rahmen des Talks wollen wir uns das an einem konkreten Aufklärungsgerät (inkl. Software), welches weltweit durch Detektive, Nachrichtendienste und Strafverfolgungsbehörden im Bereich der Audio-, Video- und Positionsaufklärung eingesetzt wird, genauer anschauen. Diese Geräte wurden nachweislich deutschen Behörden angeboten und werden mutmaßlich auch von diesen weiterhin genutzt. Im Vortrag wird Tim Philipp Schäfers kritische Sicherheitslücken vorstellen und zeigen wie ein Komplettzugriff auf die Geräte und damit verbundene Infrastruktur möglich wird. Besonders Aktivist*innen sind sehr auf dieses Wissen angewiesen - doch ein Abend-Workshop von 2-3 Stunden schafft bei ihnen oft mehr Unsicherheiten als vorher. Wie kann man zwischen Nerds und Aktivist*innen übersetzen? Wir haben viel ausprobiert, teilen unser Konzept mit euch und erzählen, welche Lernatmosphäre & pädagogischen Mittel es braucht, um die Hürden für nicht-Nerds abzubauen. Vor allem Aktivist*innen brauchen Grundwissen und Vernetzung, um Antworten für ihre konkreten Herausforderungen zu finden, insbesondere bei zunehmender Faschisierung von Staat & Gesellschaft, Abhängigkeit von Big-Tech-Monopolen, und drohenden Klimakatastrophen. Das Problem hierbei: anders als Nerds, die sich IT-Sicherheit oft mit Interesse und Angriffslust nähern, haben viele Aktivist*innen mit Überforderung und Ängsten zu kämpfen. Als Hindernis beim Lernen kommt oft strukturelle Diskriminierung dazu, und das (Wieder-)Erleben von Situationen, die damit einhergehen. Solche Stress-Situationen begünstigen Frust, Fehler, und Grenzüberschreitungen und verstärken Wissens- und Machtasymmetrien - insbesondere unter Zeit- und Repressionsdruck. Jedes frustrierende Erlebnis, jedes nicht verstandene Fachwort verschlimmert diese Hürden, und verschlechtert letztendlich die gelebte IT-Sicherheit. Wir haben selbst jahrelang schlechte Erfahrungen mit Abend-Workshops gemacht, die in 2-3 Stunden alles Wichtige für Aktivist*innen vermitteln sollen (sowohl als Trainer*innen als auch als Teilnehmer*innen). Wir sind zu dem Schluss gekommen, dass es eine andere Herangehensweise braucht, und man sich ein Wochenende dafür Zeit nehmen sollte. Deshalb haben wir ein skalierbares Konzept entwickelt und getestet, welches ermöglicht, dass Nerds und Aktivist*innen voneinander lernen können. Dieses Konzept wollen wir hiermit open-sourcen. Wir haben jetzt einige Erfahrung mit unserem Wochenend-Format, und weitere Workshop-Wochenden sind in Planung. Im Talk wollen wir unsere Idee, Learnings, Hürden und Erfolgserlebnisse teilen. Wir sprechen darüber, wie wir es schaffen können, Frust abzubauen und eine gute Lernatmosphäre zu schaffen, warum wir dafür ein all-gender-Format gewählt haben, und wieso am besten auch Leute mit wenig Erfahrung im Orga-Team sind. Entstanden ist ein Netzwerk, dass einen fortwährenden Wissens-Austausch ermöglicht und weitere Trainings organisiert. Wenn es nach uns geht, gehören technische und soziale Skills zusammen. Roswitha von Gandersheim steht auf der Bühne und erzählt von ihrer Familie. Stück für Stück werden Teile Ihrer Geschichte erzählt. Doch nach einer Weile. Moment mal? Karl, Franz, Ruprecht, Marcus Antonius, Kassandra. Das sind doch Szenen aus bekannten Theaterstücken. Oder etwas nicht? Das Ensemble vom Theater Altes Heizkraftwerk aus Hamburg Altona bringt ihr neustes Stück mit zum Easterhegg und spielt zwischen Fakten und Fakenews. Einige Schauspieler:innen vom Theater Altes Heizkraftwerk sind den Besuchenden von CCC Veranstaltungen vielleicht vom C3 Teleshop oder dem C3 Telegott auf der 40 Years of CCC: The Birthday Gala bekannt. Wer trifft welche Aussage und warum? In einer medial aufbereiteten Welt bleiben wir oft an dieser Frage hängen. Die Motive, wie Niedertracht, Verrat, aber auch Liebe, Sehnsucht - all das treibt und trieb die Menschen schon immer an. Die einen, die haben es beobachtet und schrieben es auf, die anderen haben es gelesen, gesehen, geschaut. Im Spiel (auf der Bühne) entdecken wir oft das Reale und der vor uns entstehende Traum zeigt das Leben. Im Spiel das Reale, im Traum das Leben ist ein Abend über die Kulturgeschichte Europas. 12 Szenen, 12 Monolge, von Aischylos bis in die Gegenwart. Das Stück zeigt einen Abriss über das dramatische, kulturelle Gedächtnis. Aber wo kommen diese Geschichten her? Es sind schließlich nur Ausschnitte, Höhepunkte, als wären es Storys, Reels oder snaps bekannter und unbekannter Autoren. Nun ist Theater immer auch Behauptung. In diesem Sinne tritt die (nachweislich) älteste Dramatikerin Deutschlands, Roswitha von Gandersheim auf. Sie moderiert den Abend. Vor jedem Monolog gewährt sie dem Publikum - private - Einblicke in ihre Familiengeschichte. Jeder der gezeigten Monologe steht in direktem Zusammen mit ihrer Stammbaumhistorie. Von Griechenland bis Schweden, von 500 v.C. bis heute. Dass ihre Geschichten zwar vieles enthalten, was gewesen sein könnte, muss der Zuschauer am Ende allein als Fake entlarven. Kann ja nicht so schwer sein, ein bisschen Kubernetes, Ceph & Co 😅 # Was ich wollte Dezentralität ist toll - und in dieser Welt, auch dringend notwendig. Souveräne Infrastruktur geht nicht ohne Open Source. Ich wollte nur einfach meine **eigene Infrastruktur betreiben**, ohne SaaS Anbieter, und dabei weiter die alles-ist-eine-**API** Annehmlichkeit. Bitte nicht zu viel Komplexität. So kam ich bei **TalOS Linux** an, einer Distribution um Kubernetes zu betreiben. Später dann doch noch ein bisschen mehr 🙈 # Osterhasenbau, k8s-Version Es fing unschuldig an, erst nur ein Ei, ein kleines **Kubernetes**. 🥚 Dann wurde es bunt angemalt, schließlich ist in so einem Cluster auch einiges los. 🎨 Damit es nicht so langweilig im Osternest ist, kam dann ein bisschen mehr dazu. Plötzlich dann braucht es sie doch, **persistente Daten**. 🪺 Wie umgehen mit kaputten Eiern? Oder: (un)geplantes **Lifecircle**-Management von Nodes, wenn sich Hardware gerade nicht per API erzeugen lässt. (Oder doch?) 🐣 # tl;dr: TalOS ist ein **minimales** Betriebssystem, dabei **immutable** und das ist für Security ein guter Anfang. Wie lässt sich das mit **Ceph** kombinieren und lessons learned. **Vorwissen**: Du kennst die Idee von APIs und Containern. Idealerweise hast du auch schon mal was von Orchestrierung gehört. In einer Welt, in der die Kontrolle über Kommunikationsnetzwerke zunehmend zentralisiert ist, bieten DIY-Netzwerke eine unabhängige Alternative. Dieser Vortrag zeigt, wie man mit kostengünstigen Hardware-Komponenten und Open-Source-Tools wie Reticulum und MeshChat eigene autonome Mesh-Netzwerke aufbaut. Wir werden praktische Schritte für den Aufbau, die Konfiguration und die Integration von Sensoren, Kommunikation und Rechenleistung vorstellen. Darüber hinaus diskutieren wir, wie solche Netzwerke in humanitären Krisen eingesetzt werden können, wie bei der Organisation von Hilfsmaßnahmen durch solidarische Initiativen. Dieser Workshop bietet eine ausführliche Reise durch die Welt der Do-it-yourself-Funknetzwerke und autonomen Kommunikationsstrukturen. Anhand eines exemplarischen Systemaufbaus zeigen wir, wie man mit LoRa RNode, Reticulum und MeshChat kostengünstige, flexible Mesh-Netzwerke realisiert. Dabei widmen wir uns nicht nur den technischen Voraussetzungen – etwa der optimalen Hardwarewahl, Antennenanpassung und Netzwerkplanung (Stichwort „Network Planning 101“) – sondern betrachten auch, wie diese Technologien für humanitäre Zwecke eingesetzt werden können, beispielsweise bei Cadus. Unser Ziel ist es, ein alltagstaugliches Verständnis dafür zu vermitteln, wie sich Prototypen schrittweise entwickeln lassen, ohne den Anspruch an ein sofort marktreifes Endprodukt zu haben. Besonders spannend sind dabei die vielfältigen Integrationsmöglichkeiten: vom Command Center Setup mit Sensor- und Telemetriemodulen bis hin zu improvisierten WLAN-Bridges für spontane Feldkommunikation. Wir diskutieren, warum Resilienz und Flexibilität in Krisensituationen unverzichtbar sind und wie man einfache Geräte für autonome Netze vorbereiten kann. Teilnehmende lernen, wie man gängige Stolpersteine umgeht, Datenschutz und Frequenzbeschränkungen einhält und selbst bei widrigen Bedingungen kommunikationsfähig bleibt. Dank “Hacking zum Anfassen” und Live-Demos bleibt dieser Workshop nicht bei der Theorie: Gemeinsam packen wir den Funk Koffer aus und hacken Schritt für Schritt ein eigenes robustes Mesh-Netz aufbaut. Deutsche Städte und Gemeinden, die Deutsche Bahn und viele Verkehrsunternehmen vermieten das Recht, auf ihrem Gelände Werbung zu betreiben, an private Unternehmen. Inzwischen werden die bekannten Plakatwände immer mehr durch Bildschirme ersetzt, welche die Ästhetik von Online-Werbebannern in den öffentlichen Raum transportieren. Lichtverschmutzung, Stromverbrauch, Ressourcenverbrauch für Herstellung und Entsorgung der Geräte, Gefahren für den Straßenverkehr und die ständige Reizbelastung stehen schon länger in der Kritik. Weniger bekannt ist, dass digitale Werbeanlagen nicht nur wie Werbebanner aussehen, sondern auch dieselbe Technologie nutzen, um wählbare Menschengruppen gezielt anzusprechen. Der deutsche Marktführer im Bereich dieses "Out-Of-Home-Advertisings", der Ströer-Konzern, sammelt durch konzerneigene Online-Plattformen viele personenbezogene Daten und lässt sich von Nutzer*innen erlauben, diese zu Werbezwecken weiterzugeben. Erik (Hamburg Werbefrei) berichtet über die Initiative "Hamburg Werbefrei", die sich dafür einsetzt, Werbeanlagen in der Stadt zu reduzieren und digitale Anlagen auf öffentlichem Grund zu verbieten. Skye (CCCHH/Radio FSK) erklärt, wie online erhobene Daten benutzt werden, um uns selbst außerhalb unserer eigenen Geräte noch zu verfolgen, und welche negativen Effekte sich aus der Beeinflussung durch die allgegenwärtige Werbung ergeben könnten. Unsere Bundesverfassung garantiert jedem Mensch ein Recht auf körperliche und geistige Unversehrtheit. Sollte dann nicht auch jeder Mensch ein Recht auf seine digitale Unversehrtheit haben? Das Grundrecht auf Digitale Integrität verspricht Sicherheit im digitalen Raum, Schutz vor der Nutzung von persönlichen Daten, ein Recht auf ein offline Leben und das Recht vergessen zu werden. Zusätzlich sehr aktuell ist das Recht, nicht von einer Maschine beurteilt zu werden. Bereits haben die Kantone Genf und Neuenburg dieses Grundrecht sehr deutlich in die Verfassung aufgenommen. In Zürich wurde eine Initiative dazu eingereicht und in den Kantonen Wallis, Basel Stadt, Zug und auf nationaler Ebene sind ähnliche Vorstösse hängig. Am Netzpolitischen Abend vom 17. April 2025 ist Jorgo Ananiadis zu Gast. Er ist Präsident der Piratenpartei, die massgeblich die Initiativen für die Digitale Integrität vorantreibt. Er erklärt uns, wie er sich ein Leben mit digitaler Integrität vorstellt und was der aktuelle Stand der Vorstösse ist. Kennt ihr das noch von früher? Ihr verschickt schöne Urlaubsfotos per E-Mail, aber der Upload dauert ewig, bricht ab oder es kommt eine Fehler-Mail zurück: E-Mail zu groß. Andere senden euch 10-20 Bilder ohne Probleme. Wie machen die das nur? In Mailinglisten ist es noch schlimmer: Man fragt um Hilfe, hängt ein Foto zur Veranschaulichung an und bekommt als Antwort nur Belehrungen über zu große Anhänge. Dabei hat man das zusätzliche Video schon separat hochgeladen und nur verlinkt. Oder das Limit der Mailingliste ist so eng, dass man kein einziges Fotos anhängen kann. Andere aber schon - nur wie? Webforen wollten das lösen, doch deren Ära ist vorüber, und Upload-Limits gab es auch dort. Jetzt haben wir Instant Messenger, vieles hat sich verbessert, aber das Drama sind nun Videos: länger als 2 Minuten und der Upload wird zum Glücksspiel. Andere verschicken problemlos Videos von 5-20 Minuten. Wie ist das möglich? Und dann die erzwungene Qualitätsreduktion, so dass man Fotos, die wichtig sind, doch wieder per E-Mail versendet oder separat hochlädt. Wäre es nicht schöner, wenn ihr selbst entscheiden könntet, wie und wo die Qualität reduziert wird? Und warum nicht gleich die Metadaten entfernen, statt sich nur auf die automatische Bereinigung durch Messenger und Foren zu verlassen? Tatsächlich ist das gar nicht so kompliziert. Mit etwas Grundwissen, ein paar Werkzeugen und den richtigen Optionen wird Datensparsamkeit und Datenhygiene ganz einfach. Dieser Vortrag zeigt, wie es geht, direkt am Gerät! Je nach Laune und Nerdigkeit des Publikums darf auch gerne der Horizont des Vortragenden erweitert werden. Am Ende des Abends sollte jede Person in der Lage sein, einen Dialog wie den folgenden zu führen: “Bitte schicken Sie uns Ihren Lebenslauf”. “Bitte sehr, siehe Anhang.” “Danke se… huch?! Seit einigen Jahren gibt es im FOSSGIS e.V. die Koordinierungsstelle. Dort werden viele Dinge erledigt, die den Verein und die FOSSGIS-Konferenz betreffen. In diesem Vortrag unterhalten sich Katja und Jochen über ihre Arbeit in der Koordinierungsstelle des FOSSGIS e.V.. Seit einigen Jahren gibt es im FOSSGIS e.V. die Koordinierungsstelle. Dort kümmern sich Katja und Jochen um viele Dinge, die den Verein und die FOSSGIS-Konferenz betreffen. Sie helfen die Arbeit der Ehrenamtlichen im Verein effektiver zu machen und gehen ans Telefon, wenn es klingelt.
