Economics and Inclusive Hiring: Bridging the Gap for Workplace Equality

Emile Tompa is a one-of-a-kind economist. He is incredibly passionate about inclusivity in hiring policies and is a Senior Scientist at Institute for Work & Health.
Ask him what the one thing is that organisations can do to be more inclusive towards people with disabilities and he quips “reduce stigma”.
How do you build a business case for bringing in more inclusive hiring policies? What are the challenges that one faces and how do we ensure that disability hiring policies serve those who are disabled and set them up for success?
Dr. Emile Tompa is a senior scientist at the Institute for Work & Health. He holds appointments as an associate professor in the Department of Economics at McMaster University and as an assistant professor at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Dr. Tompa is also a labour and health economist with an MBA from the University of British Columbia, an MA in economics from the University of Toronto, and a PhD in economics from McMaster University.
At PREMUS, WDPI, & MYOPAIN 2023, he is giving a keynote speech titled “Economic Evaluation as a Critical Input into Evidence-Informed Policy and Practice at the Workplace and Systems Levels”
He is also giving a post-conference workshop titled, “Building the Business Case for Occupational Health and Safety Disability Management Initiatives”
