Inspiration, tragedy and flour-bombing junkies - all in our interview with the incredible Nothing! Dominic ‘Nicky’ Palermo was raised in the 90s in Kensington, Philadelphia, at the time the heroin capital of the US. Having navigated a maze of hardcore bands, disrupted family life and stints in prison, Nicky managed to pull together Nothing – ultimately the project that saved him. The band make heavy shoe gaze music – a soundtrack to stoned hangovers, regret and drunken euphoria. Nicky’s a self-confessed self-destructor and he documents his experiences and grimly humorous take on life in brutally bare bones lyrics, obscuring them behind washes of colourful distortion. Second album Tired Of Tomorrow (released in May) is already one of our favourites of the year. Matt caught up with Nicky to speak in-depth about his teenage years in Kensington, selected bad decisions and the human capacity to adapt to almost anything.
