As many of you know, I spent over 20 years serving as a police officer before transitioning into real estate. In both of those careers, I learned one thing above all else: the importance of honesty and integrity. But a recent experience has pushed me even further into embracing the truth—no matter how uncomfortable it might be—and standing firm in my beliefs, no matter the consequences.

So, here’s the story. I’ve been helping people find their homes for a long time. I helped a friend buy his first house, and when it came time for him to upgrade to something bigger, I was right there, guiding him through the process. Everything was going well. We had a great relationship, shared plenty of laughs, and made decisions together with ease. But then, one day, something unexpected happened. He asked me a question: “Who are you voting for?”

Now, I’ve always kept things neutral in my business. I’ve never mixed politics or personal beliefs into my work—my job has always been simple: help people find the right home, make the process smooth, and protect their best interests. But in that moment, I decided to be honest. I told him, “I’m voting for Trump.” And just like that, everything changed.

His face shifted, and I could tell something inside him snapped. Hours later, I received a text message: “Get your effing sign out of my yard.” It was as if that one question about politics, a topic I had never discussed in the realm of real estate, had destroyed a business relationship and friendship. It caught me off guard, to say the least. But in that moment, I realized something crucial—I had stood by my beliefs, and in doing so, I had paid a price. But honestly, I wouldn’t change a thing.

You see, I grew up in a house where politics were always at the dinner table. My mom was a Republican, and my dad was a Democrat. They argued, fought, and disagreed, but they never let those differences define their relationship or their core values. It wasn’t about what side of the aisle they were on—it was about respect. And that’s something I’ve carried with me, even into my business today.
