Esther 7:7-10 ESV

7 And the king arose in his wrath from the wine-drinking and went into the palace garden, but Haman stayed to beg for his life from Queen Esther, for he saw that harm was determined against him by the king. 8 And the king returned from the palace garden to the place where they were drinking wine, as Haman was falling on the couch where Esther was. And the king said, “Will he even assault the queen in my presence, in my own house?” As the word left the mouth of the king, they covered Haman's face. 9 Then Harbona, one of the eunuchs in attendance on the king, said, “Moreover, the gallows that Haman has prepared for Mordecai, whose word saved the king, is standing at Haman's house, fifty cubits high.” And the king said, “Hang him on that.” 10 So they hanged Haman on the gallows that he had prepared for Mordecai. Then the wrath of the king abated.

REAPING WHAT IS SOWN

Upon hearing that Haman was the culprit, The king was shocked so that he jumped to his feet in a rage and went out into the palace garden. Out of despair, Haman fell on the couch where Queen Esther was reclining, just as the king was returning from the palace garden. The king exclaimed, “Will he even assault the queen right here in the palace, before my very eyes?” And as soon as the king spoke, his attendants covered Haman’s face, signaling his doom.

Certainly, the fact that Haman has hurt the queen has enraged the the king. Furthermore, did not Haman deceive him? He had given consent the planned massacre yet ignored utterly his own share of the responsibility. He was a wicked king and has to pass the blame to Haman everything. Had he known that Esther was a Jew, the story could be different.

Unknown to all, these ungodly men, with their evil intentions, were instruments for God’s purposes. Our circumstances are not random events but as jigsaw puzzles that perfectly fit in God’s beautiful plan. God is on top of everything.

When Harbona, one of the king’s eunuchs, told the king about the 50 feet high gallows Haman prepared for Mordecai in their house, he ordered that Haman be hanged immediately. He had a taste of his own medicine. As Paul said, “Do not be deceived: God is not mocked, for whatever one sows, that will he also reap. For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life.”[Gal 6:7,8] Surely, God could never treated contemptously. Those who are making jokes about God would meet Him someday. As David writes;

“He makes a pit, digging it out,

and falls into the hole that he has made.

His mischief returns upon his own head,

and on his own skull his violence descends.”[Psa 7:15,16]

God’s judgment is slow but sure. The reason of His delay is His compassion. It took 120 years for God to judge the world by flood through Noah because He was waiting for scoffers and wicked people to repent. There are still scoffers today. As Peter has expressed, “But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance. But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.”[2 Pet 3:8-10]
