Court rules that private pool was built on public land in Hermanus

The Western Cape High Court has ruled that a privately built pool, terrace and outside entertainment area at an apartments complex in Hermanus was, in fact, built on coastal public property. The matter came about as a result of efforts to complete a 12-kilometer footpath from Hermanus’ new harbour in the west to Grotto beach in the east but found that it was in the way. John Maytham speaks to Johan de Waal, founder of the Cliff Path Action Group.
