Welcome to Homework with Kim, Episode 10 - Comfortably Numb: Violence Desensitization - SUBSCRIBE ON YouTube- https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCNBL96bciWtnStz-D9TakIw Thank you so much for joining me for this episode! In this episode, we debate whether children's exposure to violent media and music desensitizes them to violence . And the solution to the problem of growing numb and dumb ourselves and having children who do the same. Yes, repeated exposure to violence in the media can be desensitizing. The amount, type, and context of the violence; the child's specific temperament and makeup; and the child's environment all have a role in whether children become violent, antisocial, or unfeeling. With crime being so prevalent nowadays, we believe it is an issue worthy of our attention. What's concerning is that children on a typical media diet are exposed to tens of thousands of extremely violent images and concepts via movies, games, music, and even commercials. Children's brains and bodies want stimulation as they grow, which violent media undoubtedly gives. The combination renders children, particularly those with other risk factors (such as poor home circumstances or emotional issues), especially sensitive to the desensitizing effects of media violence. Let us do the necessary Homework to keep ourselves and our children from being Comfortably Numb and desensitized to violence . Please SHARE this episode, if you think it could be beneficial to someone. Just look around, you'll see it... we have some HomeWork to do. . . so let's get started! Welcome to Homework with Kim, Episode 9 - Train up a child: DISCIPLINE Thank you so much for joining me for this episode! On this episode we discuss the great responsibility we have been given as parents. Parenting is one of life's greatest joys. But it’s not easy! Takes a lot of work. God is very explicit about the duty He lays in the hands of parents throughout Scripture. As parents, we have a responsibility to educate our children what is important to God. When left to their own devices, the "youth" lack discernment and have hearts full of folly. Children bring shame on their parents if they are not disciplined. They are born helpless, weak, and they require constant time, attention, and training! Parents are to train their kids. Parents must train their children. Discipline is to be used by parents to train their children. Proverbs regularly exhorts parents to discipline their children and to instruct them in wisdom. “Discipline your son, for there is hope; do not set your heart on putting him to death” ( Proverbs 19:18 ). This emphasizes the importance of correcting our children. It contains the concept of punishment. Discipline is never pleasant in the moment, but it produces excellent and peaceful fruit in the lives of our children. Let us to do the HomeWork necessary to Train up a child: DISCIPLINE. Please SHARE this episode, if you think it could be beneficial to someone. Just look around, you'll see it... we have some HomeWork to do. . . so let's get started! Welcome to Homework with Kim, Episode 7 - Here to Help: Now SERVING Thank you so much for joining me for this episode! It is true that many of us learnt and memorized the commandment "Love your neighbor as yourself" from an early age. However, it is also true that sometimes we do not strive to serve others, especially those in our family, with excellence. As customers, most of us are aware of how frustrating it is to receive subpar service, but do we take steps to ensure that we are providing the best possible care for our homes and families? This episode compares a few poor customer service hazards that we have all probably encountered and places them in the context of family life to help us understand our roles as spouses. Husbands, parents, siblings, etc. as a service representative striving to be of great assistance and support to our loved ones, and by extension, communities. Let's do the necessary homework to give people closest to us the assurance they need that we are here to support them- Here to help: Now Serving. Welcome to Homework with Kim, Episode 5 - Pressure Cooker: Don't Conform, Transform Thank you so much for joining me for this MID SEASON Episode! This week we talk candidly about the pressure that both our children and ourselves face. As part of our homework, the narrative that currently permeates our media and society will need to be contested. This calls for us to speak out and take a stand for what is right while speaking out against what is wrong. It is necessary for our homes and families! We also examine the Asch Conformity Experiment to determine how it relates to current events. Solomon Asch, a psychologist, designed a study in the 1950s to determine whether peer pressure can be powerful enough to alter our perspective and cause us to believe in things that are not true. To do so, he set up a clever experiment on conformity that raises questions about our ability to think freely. We ALL have homework to complete, so SHARE if you believe it could be helpful to someone, as we encourage each other to release some steam from the Pressure Cooker: Don't Conform, Transform Just look around, you'll see it... we have some HomeWork to do. . . so let's get started! Welcome to Homework with Kim, Episode 4 - Time to LISTEN. Thank you so much for joining me! This week's episode's Part 1 has a special guest , my 4-year-old daughter, Phoebe. As a mother, I usually do alot of instructing and not enough listening. It's easy to become fixated on the duties at hand and everything we must accomplish to keep things going smoothly, to ensure the wellbeing of our families and homes. However, it is very easy to overlook how much more significant (and fun) the relationship tasks are. One way we may get to know our children better and watch how their values and character improve is by asking them thoughtful questions, paying attention to their answers, and engaging in two-way dialogue. In this episode, I ask Phoebe some questions, including those surrounding matters of the heart. First off, let me admit that I'm not always good at listening. However, let's do the Homework in this area by setting aside Time to LISTEN . In part 2 of this podcast episode, I shar a brief, but true story that illustrates why it's important to make time to listen to everyone, not just our children and those at home, but also the homeless . We ALL have homework to complete, so SHARE if you believe it could be helpful to someone, as we encourage each other to make Time to LISTEN . Welcome to Homework with Kim, Episode 2- "The answer is: SIMPLE". Thank you so much for joining me! In this episode, we begin to discuss the necessity to strive for a simpler life in today's society rather than simply settling for one. In order to establish a truly Happy Home , we examine the work that needs to be done in our homes, especially regarding our children , to remove any unnecessary "stuff", and readjust our mindsets in order to put more emphasis on what is really important. . . .
