Welcome to Season 3 Episode 1 of our podcast Kuehl Kids' Conversations. This episode is all about Aesop's Fables and why these stories have lasted for so long. The class read lots and lots of different fables and discussed the morals of each and how they might apply to our lives today.
We decided that the best way to present Aesop's Fables was with readers' theater presentations. Small groups chose a modern fable written by Arnold Lobel and worked to turn the story into a script that they could perform. After some rehearsing and goofing about we were ready to record.
On the teacher side of things this process gave my students a chance to work on their reading fluency. We discussed things like inflection, "river reading", tone, and punctuation and how we can use them to help us become more fluent readers.
