Ep 35 - Chunks Of Things

Alright, let's get this over with since I'm sure nobody reads these things anyway. It was a dark and stormy night for the podcast this week when we threw our support for president behind Green Party candidate, Jill Stein. No? still nothing? OK how about the truth - since that's stranger than confection.

It's not just the usual monotony at the start of the show this week. Fill-in cohost, Michelle Thomas was caught in El Nino traffic so Throngster #1 and former fill-in cohost, Suzy L steps in and handles (And promptly fumbles) the introduction. After we slaughter a chicken, we meet this week's guests (No problem with the chicken?), Chocolate experts and bloggers Nancy Martin and Ronnie Sampson. They came directly from the dock at Southampton, trying to get to Holland or Fort Mason for the 10th annual International Chocolate Salon.

We quickly (Speaking geologically) cover: the wreck of Google's self driving SUV; MUNI's new underpowered fleet; and tunnel talk before Michelle deftly handles the Bridal Fitness Coach commercial. Then a condemnation of the Americans with Disabilities Act for not taking into account the comfort of the able bodied.

The bulk of the show covers local chocolatiers such as Scharfenberger, Dandelion, Charles Chocolates, Jade, Nubia XOX truffles, and even See's and Ghirardelli who, as we all know, were big supporters of the Third Reich.

To wrap things up Michelle brings us back to a topic that had been broached and then rejected earlier: the Mast Brothers and accusations of fraud. To be fair she wasn't with us in the beginning. Blame it on the rain.

The story of two brothers who weren't very good at sports:

The life of a mariner is one given over to wanderlust—the quest for adventure, crossing unseen horizons to secure precious goods—only to bring them back to their home port. This same love of adventure and curiosity defines the brotherhood of Rick and Michael Mast. Each bar offers its own story of flavors, and no two are exactly alike. The Mast Brothers are now planning to navigate the mighty Atlantic, sailing to the Dominican Republic in search of beans and a deeper connection with the folks who grow them.
