For what he promises will be the last music-related topic he pulls for at least the next few episodes, Alex is using his time here to give some attention to his favorite professional songwriter, Desmond Child. He discusses his history of writing music for everybody from Aerosmith and Bon Jovi to Sisqó, Katy Perry, and Ricky Martin. Andy learns about the weird heterogeneous nature of American pop songwriting and the two of them make fun of KISS. A lot.

Hate: Paradise Hotel

Andy gets his shaking-a-fist-at-a-cloud face on to dump on what he believes may be the most ludicrous idea for a reality show ever, Paradise Hotel. He gives Alex the weird, gross pitch, they admit to other horrifying examples of reality TV they’ve both consumed, and everyone agrees that when Rock of Love is somehow less terrible than any other show, it deserves to be cancelled.

A listener writes in for advice on how to deal with the results of his at-home DNA test, the results of which seem to suggest he may not actually be biologically related to his father. After Andy offers a crapload of reassurances about how blood isn’t necessary to be family (and Alex doubles down on this being the case and how anyone who says otherwise is wrong and awful), the two of them work out a road map to mourning, confrontation, guilt, and hopefully acceptance.
