"It is a scientific fact that these macaques, like all other primates, including humans, are communicating. They communicate in much the same way we do - facial expressions, vocalizations, body postures, those kinds of things." - Jeff Kerr Jeff Kerr is PETA foundations Chief Legal Officer. I asked him to come on the show to talk about one of PETA’s current lawsuits against the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and Nathional Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). PETA is arguing that the monkeys being tested on in a government run facility are capable of communication (or “are communicating”). And that we have a constitutional right under the First Amendment to receive their communications. This could be a game changer in allowing us to see what’s really going on in labs that are funded by taxpayer money, and which have so far been censored from public view. PETA’s lawsuit follows years of NIH’s attempts to deny Freedom of Information requests banning PETA executives from its campus and illegally censoring animal advocates’ speech on NIH’s public social media pages. Through the lawsuit, PETA is seeking a live audio-visual feed to see and hear real-time communications from the macaques who have been kept isolated, used in fear experiments, and had posts cemented into their heads. Anthropologists and other scientists have studied macaque and other primate communications for decades and know that the monkeys communicate effectively and intentionally through lip smacking, fear grimaces, body language, and various cries and sounds—all of which constitute speech under the law. Primatologists can analyze that speech on a deeper level to share their stories with the world.…

Setting clear lines of communication with your clients to relay to them when you are and are not available. Implementing policies as a buffer and shield to protect your time and energy. Your intake form is another layer in your pre-client journey that can lead to having a “successful” discovery call which will, in turn, lead to you booking more clients. This intake form will provide you with a little bit of information that will help you prepare and show up feeling confident on your discovery calls. That’s why episode 39 of MAKING WEBSITE MAGIC is about what your intake form can tell you about your prospective client! The Making Website Magic School of Business is pre-enrolling. Are you consistently booking dream projects & making the money you desire in your web design business? OR are you undercharging, questioning your skills, spinning your wheels & saying yes to anyone who will pay you? You CAN have a thriving web design & dev business where you consistently work with aligned clients who actually respect you and pay you well. In this episode of Making Website Magic, Sam & Karyn are sharing the importance of using your intake form as a tool to gain insight on what your prospective client may want or need in order to get a leg up on your discovery calls and actionable steps you can take right now to revise your intake form to ask the important questions and feel prepared and confident. Here are just a few of the things we discuss during this episode: The number of questions on your intake form will directly relate to the season of business you are in and how much weeding out you may need to do ahead of time. You might make assumptions about the prospective client before the call, and you can use your time on the call to confirm or debunk these assumptions. How a person’s website or lack thereof might indicate what season of business they are in and aid in determining what you could offer them. Creating an opportunity for potential clients to share their broad goals to better understand their needs and motivation behind their website. Asking about their team to get an idea of how many people will be involved in the decision-making process and day-to-day input throughout the course of the project. Learning how the client found you to align your marketing investments accordingly in the future. What your intake form can tell you about what your prospective client does not need. You’d be surprised how much valuable information you can gain by asking these simple questions on your intake form.
