When Jesus saw her weeping, and the Jews who had come with her also weeping, he was deeply moved in his spirit and greatly troubled. And he said, ‘Where have you laid him?’ They said to him, ‘Lord, come and see.’ Jesus wept. (John 11:33-35)
Dane Ortlund states in Gentle and Lowly, “His mercy is not calculating and cautious, like ours. It is unrestrained, flood-like, sweeping, magnanimous” (pp. 179-180). Ortlund shows that our worst moments are not barriers to God’s mercy but opportunities for His love to overflow even more
And a leper came to him, imploring him, and kneeling said to him, ‘If you will, you can make me clean.’ Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand and touched him and said to him, ‘I will; be clean.’ (Mark 1:40-41)
