On this week's episode, NPM’s Andrew Burnes is joined by Jenny Netherton, Senior Program Manager at Southeastern Wind Coalition and Helen Rose Patterson, Senior Campaign Manager for Offshore Wind at the National Wildlife Federation to discuss the advent of offshore wind in Louisiana state waters.
Together, Jenny and Helen Rose answer poignant questions about whether offshore wind in state waters, essentially unprecedented elsewhere in the country, is feasible, whether demand on the ground for offshore wind in Louisiana is genuine or policy-driven, and the challenges developers interested in in the area will face when compared to the much more vetted federal WEAs identified by BOEM. The policy experts also predict some major announcements from Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards related to offshore wind, some of which may come sooner than expected.
