Nordic Animism

The Elder tree, or Mother Elder, is a characteristic piece of animism in southern Scandinavia. This goddess is sometimes considered a cluster of beings, the elder spirits or elder people, and a number of rituals and taboos are practiced in relation to the elder tree.
