President Joe Biden has commuted the sentences of roughly 1,500 people who were released from prison and placed on home confinement during the COVID-19 pandemic. He has also pardoned 39 individuals convicted of nonviolent crimes. This marks the largest single-day act of clemency in modern history.

Time magazine has named President-elect Donald Trump "Person of the Year" for the second time. Trump also rang the opening bell at the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday.
