Q: How will the course be assessed?

A: Answered on CDYJ Podcast

Q: How many students will be on the course?

A: Around 40-45 based on previous cohorts.

Q: What career have recent graduates gone on to?

A: After speaking to a few graduates, recent careers include Ambulance trusts, Private Ambulance Providers, Working on Oil rigs, working on cruise ships and travelling abroad to join ambulance services in other countries. Additionally, there is the opportunity to study at postgraduate level which can lead you into multiple career paths.

Q: Is there an opportunity to take a placement? If so, will the university organise this?

A: University in combination with the local ambulance trust should organise placement time. From my understanding, there is an opportunity to conduct elective placement if you wish. It would probably be best to discuss this with your University placement team.

Q: What does a placement/year look like?

A: A good mixture of Uni theory, placement blocks and leave. Also discussed on the CDYJ Podcast.

Q: What sort of student support provision is in place?

A: As well as lecturers ensuring that you are supported throughout your study, other student support is available, including support with academic writing, financial difficulties, mental health, and personal circumstances that may impact your study. The student union is often the first point of contact for support at university and are very good at accommodating your needs. Additionally, the ambulance trust actively ensure that you are supported throughout placement and there are people you can contact within the ambulance trust who can support you if needed. – Also discussed in the CDYJ podcast.

Q: Do the staff seem knowledgeable and accessible?

A: Yes definitely, all members of the course team are registered Paramedics or other health care professionals who are always contactable by email.

Q: What are the advantages and disadvantages of living on or off campus?

A: Discussed in CDYJ podcast.

Q: What sports and societies are available at the university?

A: Discussed in CDYJ podcast.

Q: How employable is my degree?

A: Very employable, now more than ever. The role of a Paramedic is now widely understood and resultingly, Paramedics are being integrated into various settings, including GP’s, hospitals, travel services and even in academic research roles.

Q: What job opportunities are there at university?

A: Discussed in CDYJ podcast. More info can be obtained from the information contact at your chosen uni.

Q: Are there any hotels, BNBs or apartments near university for my family to stay at when they visit?

A: Yes, there is a travel lodge and premier inn within walking distance of the Uni

Q: What grades do you need – and can you still get a place if you don't quite get them?

A: This varies depending on the university, probably best to look on the uni website or contact them directly.

Q: Which qualifications and combinations of qualifications do they accept/prefer?

A: This varies depending on the university, probably best to look on the uni website or contact them directly.
