Since 2018, he has been Secretary-General of the Democracy in Europe movement, a left-wing pan-European party he co-founded in 2016. Previously, he was Greece's Minister of Finance during much of 2015. Varoufakis’ most recent book is Technofeudalism: What Killed Capitalism.
