When wanting to become proficient in anything we all know that the basics must be first understood. Without a firm foundation of the basics in any subject you will never fully understand or even remotely become good at that subject.

When I studied greek in Bible college I quickly realized how bad I was at just simple English… I did not know what a verb was, a pronoun, a noun… I just somehow missed all this and still passed the tests and got graduated…

But when you go to greek class and you don’t have these basics under your belt… trust me on this.. you will suffer… it will set you back and you might even fail…

Jesus says something remarkable about the parable of the seeds….

Some fell on the rocks, some on weeds, some the birds ate, some the sun scorched, some on thorns and some on good soil….

What are the seeds?

Its gods word… so then Jesus says something remarkable about this parable because it is actually a parable about out this parable… you won’t understand anything if you don’t understand this parable. Let me dumb it down for you… If you don’t have a heart prepared to receive Gods word… you won’t understand anything. It all starts with a heart that will receive, conceive and achieve the potential for what the word is for.

You can read the Bible, go to church, listen to Christian music and even go to bible college… but if your heart is not prepared and open to understand Gods word… none of that matters.

What did it take to have good soil in the days of Christ… you had to prepare it with tilling, fertilizer, water and protection from weeds and bugs and animals… Let me spell it out for you… it took hard work to prepare you soil. It takes hard work to truly get all you can out of scripture. Prepare your heart how?

I would start out with confession… Ask God to forgive you of sins, wrong motives, bitterness etc..

Then tell God you need his help, Ask the Holy Spirit to guide you, then till your heart by reading different translations, a few commentaries and even other scriptures that align with your topic. Work hard at it… if you don’t have a heart and a life that accepts scripture… nothing else will make sense.
