What is a Popby?

  • Just what it sounds like – you’re popping by your client’s houses, knocking on their door, and dropping off a gift with some marketing materials.

Scheduling

  • Ashlee plans out her marketing and popbys at the beginning of the year, but this year she may do it even sooner, making her marketing plan before the end of the year so she can carry it out sooner.

  • Ashlee typically does 4 popbys per year around holidays or for each season.

  • Tiffany will do them every 2-3 months – that’s what works for her and her clients. Each agent needs to see what works for them!

Keeping it Budget-Friendly

  • For her Fourth of July-themed popbys, Ashlee was able to buy sparklers and poppers in big quantities and bag them up with a Market Dwellings card, spending the least amount of money possible while still giving quality items.

  • Tiffany comes up with a budget and has, in the past, set a $2 per popby limit. She shopped a lot of clearance to make that possible, but it cost her a lot of time. Now, she tends to spend more money, which allows her to be more creative.

  • One of the women on their team did super budget-friendly popbys. It doesn’t always matter what it is – it’s more about the touch.

Who Delivers?

  • Tiffany delivers some of them and involves her kids! People in the neighborhood and on social media love it.

  • Get local teens involved during the summer months if they’re looking for a summer job.

  • Ashlee delivers her local popbys, but most of Tiffany and Ashlee’s non-local popbys get dropped off by a runner.

Following Up

  • Ashlee sends a text to each person individually to wish them a happy holiday or season.

  • Since you’re going to leave a popby at the front door, it’s important to connect with the client because they may not use their front door every day!

  • Popbys are a way to reconnect with past clients if you’ve fallen out of touch. They are typically better received than mailers or random texts.

“When you’re looking at this and going, ‘There’s no way I’m fitting this into my schedule,’ having someone do this from start to finish, from shopping to putting them together to delivering them, that is also checking the box. Do not feel like if you can’t do it 100% you’re not going to do it at all. Give up that control because you’re going to get that same return, maybe not the same as you knocking on the door, but that return is still going to be there. That touch is still going to be there.” – Tiffany Klusacek
