When a young Eva Kollisch arrives as a refugee in New York in 1940, she finds a community among socialists who share her values and idealism. She soon discovers ‘the cause’ isn’t as idyllic as it seems. Little does she know this is the beginning of a lifelong commitment to activism and her determination to create radical change in ways that include belonging, love and one's full self. In addition to Eva Kollisch’s memoirs Girl in Movement (2000) and The Ground Under My Feet (2014), LBI’s collections include an oral history interview with Eva conducted in 2014 and the papers of Eva’s mother, poet Margarete Kolllisch, which document Eva’s childhood experience on the Kindertransport. Learn more at www.lbi.org/kollisch . Exile is a production of the Leo Baeck Institute , New York | Berlin and Antica Productions . It’s narrated by Mandy Patinkin. Executive Producers include Katrina Onstad, Stuart Coxe, and Bernie Blum. Senior Producer is Debbie Pacheco. Associate Producers are Hailey Choi and Emily Morantz. Research and translation by Isabella Kempf. Sound design and audio mix by Philip Wilson, with help from Cameron McIver. Theme music by Oliver Wickham. Voice acting by Natalia Bushnik. Hi! Today we are talking about America's Sweethearts aka DCC. I was and still am obsessed with the show and the dancing. These women are SO talented. In today's episode I talk about the topics that people had issues with while watching the show and how all of it is tied back to identity. There are spoilers! So if you haven't watched the documentary on Netflix - go do that first. OR just listen knowing that I will spoil a few things!…
Hi friends! today's episode is all about hosting well. Hosting can be intimidating and overwhelming at times but I've hosted SO many different events: from birthdays, to bible studies, to bachelorettes and baby showers, to fundraisers for teams - and honestly, by God's grace, I've improved each time I've hosted. Throughout all of these experiences, I've learned a TON when it comes to hosting well. I also believe hospitality is at the heart of who God is. Jesus is all about connection and building relationships with others and we should be as well! When we open up our homes, or offer to host an event, we are showing those around us the characteristics of Christ!…
Hi! It's Easter Week and here I am, hopping on the podcast to talk about Easter. I also talk about the Samaritan Woman from John 4. This is also a HUGE brain dump. Feeling very sentimental and thankful for the cross. I hope this sparks a conversation and I hope it reminds you of how much God loves you. I apologize in advance if this feels random and not organized - none of this was planned! HA. Happy Easter. Jesus wants to know you and be a part of your life. Psalms for Prayer She Reads Truth Bible Studies Yoga Massages, facials, and therapy Health Podcast for Women: Little Rae of Health Podcast 30 things I learned: Relationships / Friendships You do not have to be friends with people who are mean to you You cannot change a person’s heart —> only God can do that Recognize patterns early on in a relationship (both within yourself and your partner) and ask yourself, “why does this keep happening”? It takes two people to make a relationship / friendship work don’t take 100% of the blame for things not working out Consistency is key - keep showing up It’s okay to let friends go - even when it hurts or even when you don’t want to let go Your circle grows smaller as you get older and that’s okay You can’t take back words already spoken - choose them wisely You do not have to go to church every weekend, but just like a marriage, if you do not come home every night, how will your marriage survive? Going to church is like going home - it’s necessary You are who you spend your time with - who do you want to become? Faith When you are unsure - pray and when you are sure - pray some more. Invite God in God is good even when your circumstances are not God grieves with you when you are in pain —> run to him Being sad / depressed is not un-spiritual - there are psalms that express this very thing, so no, there is nothing wrong with you! Faith is a personal journey but if no one knows about your walk with Christ are you really living in God’s presence? It is better to show up in person (when possible) than sending a bible verse - be the good news in action and not only in words Be on guard when life is good - it is SO easy to think you’ve figured life out Sin hides in secret - be open and honest with a few so that they can hold you accountable Mentors and premarital counseling makes a good marriage so much easier, enjoyable, and achievable Whatever you do in this life - do it with everything you have. Work well not for the approval of others but for their good and the Glory of God Life Hacks Save up to buy real gold jewelry - better to wait and have less than turn green Heatless curls - aka silk sausages- work! Stop killing your hair as soon as possible. Use heat for special occasions but avoid it as much as possible when it comes to day to day use Time > money but both are important. Choose where you spend both wisely Invest in therapy for both the mind and the body You only wear 20% of your wardrobe most months, do a clean out at least once a year Eat more protein (think of food as eating more of something good rather than eating less of food in general) and move your body weekly Oysters are great for your health - especially for women If you can’t travel as much as you want to, read- literature teaches and takes you places Make moments to pause and be grateful for all God has provided If you are unsure about something, put it on hold and leave. Most times you will not go back for it.…
