Ever bought items that you never ended up using? Or do you have things you no longer need, but are still in good condition? Kimia Talebian, CEO and co-founder of Good Use, addresses this issue by connecting communities together through a social application platform to give and receive free stuff, and put it into good use.

Kimia was born in Iran, and immigrated to Canada with her family when she was young. She studied finance during her undergrad at the University of British Columbia before starting her professional career in consulting. She eventually transitioned to Cirque du Soleil, which she states as a pivotal point in her career. Watching her acrobat colleagues risk their lives everyday for something they loved to do inspired her to find something she wanted to do. Kimia left and went to Harvard Business School, where she searched to find a way to work with people and provide technology to make their lives better.

After graduating, she joined Lime as a general manager, where she was able to work on a product to connect communities through technology, and learned a lot about marketplaces. At Lime, Kimia met Darrius Thompson, CEO of SweetLabs. The two connected over their passion for technology and its power to transform communities. And that's how Good Use was born: A marketplace for giving and receiving free things, meeting new people and showing gratitude. They believed that acts of giving can create a positive impact for a community, and can make people happier and grateful through that interaction.

Listen to Kimia share the founding story of Good Use and how the application promotes contributing to the community and creating a happier place for people as they give and receive.

Kimia’s favorite local tacos:
