It’s amazing to think that Law & Order: Special Victims Unit has been captivating audiences for 26 seasons. The series continues to deliver compelling stories while advocating for victims of sexual crimes. Though the cast has seen changes over the years, two constants remain: Emmy winner Mariska Hargitay, who has portrayed Captain Olivia Benson since the first episode in 1999, and Ice-T, who joined the series in its second season.
While SVU has an impressive 26-season run, it’s important to remember its roots. It’s a spinoff of the original Law & Order, which premiered in 1990 and is currently in its 24th season. Though the original series was off the air for a few years before being rebooted, its impact on television – and SVU – is undeniable. Ice-T himself acknowledges the legacy of the original series.
